A pit bull began coming around. He is very friendly with my dog, and they play all day long. He's been skittish with people but today he got close enough to my daughter and I (ready for the worst just in case) to take treats from us.

He's very gentle, and obviously abandoned. My dog has alpha'd him, including the degrading mount & butt shots.

We are thinking about keeping him but that's a ways off until we see how he acts a bit more.

He has these marks on his ass.  Symmetrical.  What are these?

You sound like a good person. I cannot identify the marks.

It's your funeral pal.

Get him checked for a micro chip, most vets do that for free.

Looks like he got ridden by a raccoon.

I’d guess from a fight with a coon.

Nice sentiment, OP, but better know what you’re doing.

It looks healthy and clean.  How do you know it's abandoned?

He does have ticks and scratches, and his nails are really really long.

He probably put a notch on his ass for every family member he's killed.
Once he finished eating them, he got hungry and went looking for a new family.

That's the plan, but I want to see a lot more behavior before I try to put a collar on him and put him in a vehicle.

I am also taking counsel with the lady at the rescue where my dog came from. She does this all the time.

The most pathetic, malnourished, torn-up, parasite-infested pitbull I'd ever seen showed up at our hunting camp one day. Arfcom warned me about what would happen if I didn't shoot him immediately. But I just didn't listen. Took me about a week to catch him in a blanket and pull out the ticks and cactus spines and take him to a vet. Then I was foolish enough to bring him home.

It's been a year now. He'll probably snap any day.

He’ll be fine. Op, once ran a club shoot where the shooters had to take out two “guard dogs” first.

Leaning this way, as they are perfectly symmetrical.

The barbed wire was a good guess, but he'd have them on his back too if that was the case, and there aren't any other marks.

Have the marks photos out to others.

He's still hanging around.

You know..........   LMFAO that's fucking true.

You had to hit the sentry, then hit the dog (sideways IDPA run in the pits by the least fat shooter in that relay) as it ran across.  We've got vidya somewhere.

But I always thought of those as GSD's.  This one will be harder to hit, and it will take more than a couple as the fucker appears to be made out of solid rock.

I was too. Even my wife kept telling me, "You are not bringing an abused pitbull into this house."

I couldn't bring myself to leave him behind, though. I phoned my vet, who told me that pits used to be "America's dog", and that they should be judged individually, just like all dogs of all breeds.

If your pit works out like ours did, you have just found the most loyal and trusting friend you will ever have.
