I win the ugly Soviet Block pistol contest.....By a mile.

I picked-up this 1954 CZ-52  Saturday morning at a local pawn shop.....$225.00.

I was amazed at what they are selling for on GunPorker.

Dang, that's nice. I'd like to get one to go with my Bulgi/Arsenal SAM7.

Nice Mak, did it get the billboard import mark on the flip side?

I learned to appreciate them way after prices started rising. They are simple, accurate, robust, reliable, and in a decent size. Polymer framed single stack 9mm's offer better performance at less weight but, nothing wrong with a Mak

Got one in 9mm when they were first being imported, so got it cheap.  Kool-as-hell roller lock.

That is ugly all right. Mak is a good looking gun by any measure.

You did well.  I bought two of those in pretty much un-issued condition many years ago, also a crate of 2,500 rounds of good Romanian ammo for them.

Other than the firing pins being prone to breakage during dry-firing, it's a pretty decent weapon.

I've considered having one of them mirror-polished and gold-plated just because it would be unique.

The only one I have left is a 1961 East German example.

LOL....I was buying Bulgarian Maks for $79.99 a pop with all the goodies in the late 90s......Sort of makes me wonder what the FFLs were paying for them.

BTW....I've no interest in the CZ-52 but I could not pass it by for use as trade-fodder later on. I had one when they were half that price and did not like it.

No, import mark is small and is on the other side of the frame.

I remember back in the day when SOG had Bulgys for $79 and up. I bought several, plus a P64 and a PA-63. I miss those days.

I have a few of them, don't dry fire that thing it will shatter the firing pin.  New steel pins are available and I'd pick a spare up. They sling brass into the next county.

My dad had a few Bulgies in .380. I think he gave them all away to friends. He paid like $90 a piece...

While the CZ-52 is butt ugly, the one I had worked like a champ and was very accurate...especially considering it's crappy sights.  I kinda wish I had kept it.

@Federov - Thanks very much for that link.  I just received some of Harrington's firing pin kits and rollers.  They're very well made.  Now I'm not afraid to fire my CZ-52s.

I'm glad I bought a crate of brass cased, Boxer primed Romanian ammo for them when it was available and cheap.

No problem!

I got mine two years ago but they're really tight.  I shoot Romanian ammo too but for some reason it sometimes gets stuck in the chamber.  I know the rollers are really tight but my CZ52 is still pretty much factory new.

I can't believe Mak's are over $450 at Sportsman's Warehouse.  I had one back in the 1990's that I paid less than $200 for--and it was an actual Russian made brand new one.

I have a Russian that I swapped out the adjustable sights for fixed and added East German grips.  Nice gun, nothing wrong with Maks.

I love my Bulgy Mak, think it cost me $135 with 2 matching mags.
I've made custom grips for mine.

I have a Bulgarian Mac that was made somewhat better by adding a Pearce rubber grip. Other than ammo being not-so-available right now, it has been a  pretty good shooting and always properly functioning gun.

I had the "visit".  I no longer had possession of the gun (or the crappy aftermarket barrel) as I had traded it off at a local gun shop.  Bad part is I couldn't find the receipt and the shop had gone out of business.  Told the FBI to check with the ATF as they should have the info now.
Haven't heard anything since.  *crosses fingers*
