I took some 35mm film to my local camera shop (Mike's Camera, they're "big" here in CO)
I chose to not go to walmart or walgreens (do they even do film anymore?)
to try and keep money local and in a LCS, not to mention a more 'professional' type establishment
This was my first roll of 35mm in some years. I normally do medium format and develop my own (B&W).
as I was flipping through the photos, I noticed that the composure of some of the photos was way off
compared to what I remember seeing in the view finder.. I know I'm not that bad
I looked at the negatives and noticed that they were okay, so it must have been an alignment problem at the photo lab when printing.
I went there and talked to them, and they blamed the machine (a Fuji of some sort)
Apparently after the film is developed, they run it through the scanner and print from the scans, and the scanner works at high-speed and did what it could
They almost said that it was the way of things, as if they were not going to do anything about it.
I would think, that in 2021, and with Fuji nonetheless, they would have this down to a perfect science, some 180 yrs after it all began. (?)
(what's on the negative is what you get on the photo)
I gave them another roll to process and print (comp'd), and they'll run some tests to see what they find and work with the tech support people if needed.
While a few of the people I talked to at the store fully agreed with me, a few said I was lucky there was still a place to get film processed and/or that
If I wanted that kind of precision, I should have asked for special handling
what are your experiences ?
