Attached File Apparently I can open an EZpass account and save 50% off this bill....but the transponder fee is $35 and a $3 yearly fee. We drive up maybe once every 2 years. These rates for non-EZpass schlubs is crazy. It is a great route for our needs, but has more than doubled in price in just a few years. I wish to deprive those shits of my money, or at least only give them the reasonable amount. I may still do the EZpass, because in a year or so, are they going to double the rates again? Since when is there a transponder or service fee? I've had the ezpass from ny for 25 years.

Illinois uses Ipass and I think it's interchangeable with ezpass. It's $35 for the transponder and comes with $20 already on it. Maybe look at another state that's cheaper.

You can thank PennDot for that. Turnpike has been paying Penndot 400 million a year for the last 20 years and are deeply in debt. Penndot pisses it away and PA still has the worst roads in the country. Thankfully that contract ends this year and turnpike won't have to PA it anymore.

Get an ezpass through VA and the $35 transponder is prepaid with $35 in tolls.

I wonder if those license plate covers work against those cameras.

Be sure to keep an eye on your acct. I didn't use my VA prepaid EZpass transponder for 1.5 years and when I used it I got a red light at the booth.
Ezpass had deactivated my account and was just sitting on my prepaid money, and to top it off baltimore tunnel toll sent me a penalty for $25 each way. |

Should have my new Ohio plates soon though In for free ezpass transponders though |

I've had PA ezpass for years, but they are expiring now. I'm switching to MA's ezpass because they don't charge per year per car like PA, and the upfront charge for each transponder goes towards your balance, so $20 per transponder goes into your account balance (not a fee). They are sending them free of charge so far as I know. Bottom line, I don't think there's any extra charges for actually getting and keeping the transponders if I'm interpreting it correctly. They will work in PA and other EZpass states.

OP: drive through NYS once or twice and the pa tolls will seem like a bargain

View Quote So that's 360ish miles for 43 bucks? That's pretty good at .12 cents a mile or so It costs me $3.00 to go one way to work on 9.5 miles of tollway, so that's about .32 cents a mile (with the eztag discount). And that's about 1/4 of the beltway here in Houston. |

It was $28 each way to my destination in PA.
Got EZ pass early this year and now it is $32. Saved me a ton. |

When I bought my EZ Pass transponder it was $35 and $25 of it went to the EZ Pass account as credit.
