Hell, you can get a damn good cheesesteak at any of one several places in Reading Terminal Market.

Mac's Philly Steak in Canandaigua NY imports Amoroso rolls, and makes better cheesesteaks than Philly.
But, right down the street from Mac's is Faro's Pizzeria, which makes an even better cheesesteak. |

Try Love and Honey fried chicken while you’re in Philadelphia.

Quoted: Four foodies went to Philly with me. We did Gino's and Pats back to back for a taste test. Didn't even finish the sandwich said the stuff is tourist crap. It's literally a mushy steakumm with cheese whiz. Accidentally wound up at Tony Luke's later that day and it was miles better. View Quote Vote for Tony Luke’s did a cheesesteak run there from Va. |

Neither is all that spectacular, but if I had to choose it would be Geno's.
If you want the best, cross the bridge over to Camden and go to Donkey's, you can thank me later. |

I’ve been going to each for almost 35 years. They have gone down the hill with the amount of meat and cheese in service.
I can honestly you get a better cheesesteak in Florida. If you’re determined to get a cheesesteak in Philadelphia go to Jim‘s. Otherwise if you are in Atlantic City go to the White House. |

Quoted: Visited Philadelphia today to get some traffic infractions in, figured I'd try a cheesesteak. Went to Pat's. Really debating if I want to go through the traffic and awful parking to try Geno's another day. Pat's was okay, seems like the meat needed salt, could have used more meat. A bit on the high side, and the employees have the personality of a gulag wall. Is Geno's any better? https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/219085/245369239_251025363742543_71185719144263-2132994.JPG https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/219085/245928014_10159946200941004_872310189771-2132995.JPG View Quote Honestly that looks terrible . I could drive to any local pizza house and get a better steak grinder than what you posted . |

Geno's has a much better cheesesteak. Pats has really good pizza fries. Together those make a tasty combo. Pretty overblown though.
People that know what the fuck they're doing just go to Tony Luke's and get a Beefbuster though. |

I do not consider Cheeze Whiz as real food.
It is nearly poisonous Fortune 500 slop. I can't believe a "restaurant" actually uses that product. |

Quoted: I prefer Steve’s if you are in Northeast Philly. If I’m at Pats and Genos I usually hit Pats. There’s been two murder at Pats the last couple months. It’s best not to be there when all the drunks show up. View Quote This is a man of taste and distinction. Steve's Prince of Steaks is indeed the best. Used to frequent their Fairless Hills location when I lived there. |

The Italian Roast Pork sandwich is the best sandwich offering in Philly. The “Italian Hoagie” in that area sucks. It has a roll that’s too soft, and uses crappy domestic “Italian” cold cuts. |

Quoted: They are both overrated. View Quote This, ^ Comes up here often - ask locals and you'll get much better direction. Jims, Delassandros, even Tony Luke's are better. Get back for Army Navy games, and nothing's really changed. Pats and Genos are fine for tourist grub and pretty much equal, but they ain't the best. |

Quoted: Pat's has better rolls, but neither if you want real meat. Cross the bridge into south jersey and pick any random pizza shop for a better cheese steak. View Quote Pretty well summed up. If you need to hit a tourist steak place, Steve's or Tony Luke's. Both still used shaved ribeye last I checked. Tony's best sandwich is still the chicken cutlet with sharp cheddar and broccoli rabe on a butter, garlic role. Their roast pork isn't too shabby either and it's open late. |

I used to live just over the Walnut Lane bridge from Dalessandro's (and Chubby's). Amazing I didn't gain a ton of weight in those years (although I was running trails frequently in the Wissahickon park, that probably helped). |
