I’ve worked in CV surgery as a Perfusionist (I run the heart and lung machines that keep the patient alive as the CardioVascular surgeon is working on the heart) for 19 years now.
On Saturday night, I noticed some discomfort, but I thought it was related to what I had eaten, as I often have bad indigestion. It went away after 20 or 30 minutes, and I felt pretty good on Sunday. On Monday, it came back with a vengeance. Maybe as high as an eight on a pain scale of 1 to 10. It took about two hours for that to fade to a 3. I was pretty sure that it was food related again (felt like I really needed to burp but couldn’t), so I was in no hurry to go into the hospital. I got called for an emergency case at the hospital, and went in to set up my pump. I had scheduled an appointment to see my GP the next day and told the other gentleman in my group so they knew I wasn’t feeling well. One told me he was stopping in to check on me, and by the time he got there I had decided to go to the ER. They immediately took an EKG and then a rerun. Both Showed some changes indicative of a heart attack. My sister in law works in the Cath lab and came down to check on me. She called her favorite cardiologist and he came in to see me. Within 10 minutes I was in the Cath lab. Clot (per the cardiologist, possibly COVID related as I has COVID about 1 month ago) in the mid LAD and they placed a stent. No arteriosclerosis issues, but I’ll be on drugs for the rest of my life. ETA: you people zeroing in on the COVID stuff are obsessed and are burying the lede . I had a heart attack. My chest was hurting and I ignored it for several hours. Don’t do what I did. Get checked out. |

You said you had COVID, but what about the vaccine??? We kind of need to know this.
|
|
Past a certain age, can't we just assume that any type of chest pain is bad?
|
|
I've heard stents are amazing at increasing your energy levels.
Any way to get checked if you can get one prior to having chest pains? |
|
Good call, glad you are still above ground.
My Dad ignored what you didn't...he made it to the hospital exactly when he needed to in order to save his life; problem was he waited too long and was too weak for the procedure. He died a week later in that same hospital bed. |

My local hospital sucks. My father in law went to the ER several times in the period of a few months with chest pain. They diagnosed him as having an anxiety attack, and didn't bother to run any diagnostics to test for heart problems. He had a heart attack in the parking lot at work. Luckily he was rushed to the hospital and survived with little damage. So it is not enough to take it seriously, you have to make the doctors take it seriously too.
While he was being loaded into the ambulance, he freaked out the EMT and the crowd of coworkers gathered around by asking, "Who is that dark hooded figure with a scythe standing behind you?" |

TRUTH OP!
I was mowing the lawn, felt very poorly and couldn't feel my hands. Finished the yard with another 30 minutes of mowing, of course Got in the house, got some tea and a fan on me, still not right. Called 911. I had had a heart attack and didn't know it. Better now. Chicom19 has done a number on my brain, but cardiologist says it didn't attack my heart. Stress test the other day took MUCH longer than I and the (exceedingly hot Puerto Rican) tech thought it would to get me to target rate. I'll take the win. Don't ignore chest pain. It ain't indigestion!!! |

Had a good friend die last week at 63 years old. Heart attack.
Woke up around 2am feeling bad. By around 4am he was "hurting all over". Wife had tried to get him to go to ER around 3:30. He took a few heavy breaths, and was gone. EMT's could not revive him nor could ER. He had no previous issues. For those wondering, yes, he had the vax, but no boosters. |

You probably responded better than most would
Glad you’re doing good |

Damn dude. Hope you’re alright. I’ve had a similar story to yours.
I had covid very bad early 2020. After about two weeks of being on the mend and getting better I started developing horrible breathing issues. They ran all sorts of scans and said my lungs looked fine. After finding nothing they ran blood work for my heart. Latter that day when the results came back my troponin was extremely elevated and BNP level were high. Was having dinner that night with family and experienced massive chest pain, pain in my arm and break out into a deep sweat. Next thing I knew I was in the ER. Ran an EKG which looked fine, but troponin was even higher, same with BNP. They did an echo and found pericarditis and mitral valve regurgitation. I was told all of this was from covid. I still get winded very easily and light headed. At the time I was early 30’s, 180lbs, worked out every day, in great shape and no prior health issues to covid. During all of that I dropped down to 137lbs. Took me almost a year to recover. There was no vax at the time this happened and I still remain pure blood. Take that however you will. |

Amazing to learn there were never any heart attacks before the Covid vaccine.

Glad you're okay.
Good advice. I caught three impending heart attacks that way, wound up with 3 stents, 3 CABGs, and a pacemaker. If in doubt, I hit the ER. There have been a few times that one might call false alarms, but the Cardiologist did advise me of potential problems. |

OP I appreciate what you're telling people.
I retired from Respiratory therapy last year and I've seen what you've describing in patients for years. There are some people here that stir shit and try to get threads locked. Glad you're OK and it's always the best advice not to ignore chest pain. |
