Owner demands answers after beloved donkey is shot by police A Cedartown family is seeking answers after they say a police officer shot and killed their pet donkey during a search for a missing person. Hannah Israel said officers entered her pasture around 12:45 a.m. while searching for a missing person. According to Israel, officers entered without permission or warning before encountering her donkey, HeeHaw. Israel said officers told her the donkey ran toward them while braying and that they believed they were in danger. She said officers attempted to use a Taser before shooting and killing the animal. (More at link) From Facebook: At 12:45am cops entered my pasture searching for a missing person WITHOUT permission or warning and shot and killed my bottle raised baby donkey. They claimed he ran up to them braying and they thought they were in danger and shot and killed him after trying to taze him. HeeHaw was raised in the house and did petting zoos he never knew a stranger. And was shot and killed in his OWN pasture for doing what donkeys do. Alerting to a stranger. There is no way this is legal! I will be taking legal action. Share this everywhere and get justice for HeeHaw. We are heart broken ?? he was my SON!! |

Early out of FTO I was part of a barricaded suicidal armed subject call. There were two horses loose in the pasture around the house where we were all standing perimeter. One of them came up to me and wanted to be petted. Hard to keep a rifle on target while giving a horse ear scritches, but I did it. The other one went after the Sgt. Bit him in the ass while he was on the phone briefing his boss. The screaming was epic. That guy was known for using excessive force on everything, but all he did that night was scream and shoo the horse away (well. And tase the shit out of the guy inside once we got in contact). Probably a stupid shoot, and probably a good payout on the way... |
| Years ago there was a deputy in my county that shot a goat, but I don't remember the situation around it. I heard the rest of the deputies gave him a ton of shit over it. I have a suspicion that the other officers are hoping this shitbird is canned over the shooting the donkey. |

That Sucks. Come on someones property that had nothing to do with the situation - was a total innocent party. Gives no warning to the owner, enters a closed gate into an enclosure - (And) Shoots their F'ing Pet. I'd be seriously pissed - just like the owner in this case. |

Fundraiser launched to cover lawyer fees as officer identity involved witheld The post has since led at time of publishing, $10K raised towards 'Cover lawyer fees after Heehaw's Tragic Death,' according to a linked GoFundme. The Polk County Sheriff's Office confirmed its agency was not involved in the shooting, noting the incident involved officers from the Polk County Police Department and the Cedartown Police Department. 'We extend our sincere condolences to the family and everyone affected by this unfortunate incident. We understand the concern and sadness surrounding what occurred,' the Polk County Sheriff's Office stated. FOX5 stated officials have not released the identity of the officer who fired the fatal shot or detailed why the animal was perceived as a threat. |
