I want to increase the light outside my door at the cabin. My current fixture is a metal cage that is almost 7 inches from base to end. It has what looks like a large fluorescent pig tail bulb in there currently. When I try to research cage light fixture, I get decorative light elements. What would be a good bulb for this type fixture? What about a corn light bulb? Is there one that would work in this setting?
Thanks,
hh

An LED lamp won't survive (long) in that sealed fixture, it will overheat. You need a new fixture, chose a style that you like.

Sounds like you have a CFL in there now.

Me being a cheap-ass, I'd probably just put a LED corncob bulb in the existing fixture, omitting the glass lens for better cooling.

That really doesn't look like a location that sees more than a little bit of indirect rain splash.
