The Enterprise refit is the most beautiful starship in the star trek universe, with the Miranda class a close second...

voted refit, but the 1701-D and 1701-E are best.

As wisely noted in a few posts above, NCC-1701-D is the best NCC-1701.

Refit is best, but I think E comes in second. Both have purpose to their design.

And what is wrong with you people saying D? The D was a fucking cruise liner, an amorphous blob like a 90's Ford Taurus. D is the worst Enterprise.

I think the post refit original series Enterprise looks better. The original just looks too spindly.

That said just about anything is better looking than the monstrosity that is the Crossfield class from STD. How dare they drag Scott Crossfield's name into that shit show?

NX-01. Has that dark, early years feel.  Submarine doors, all metal surfaces.

Other than that, TOS was the first. And the best. Got the 1/350 kit of NCC-1701 and a studio scale Klingon D-7 kit on the way.

I agree that the Refit Enterprise is the best looking of all the Enterprises.

I do, however, like the re-imagining of the non-refit Enterprise in Discovery.

The biggest knock the the Refit Enterprise is that it looks too different from the TOS Enterprise to have been a 'refit'. The Discovery version (while darker, like everything in Discovery) seems more like something that could have evolved into the Refit Enterprise.

Blergh, the 3 nacelle configuration.

I do like the few 4 nacelle jobs they came up with. Especially the Prometheus class. The USS Buran was also a nice looking design. Even if it is one of many ships that were clearly intended for a post TNG era of ships. But got shoved into the Discovery timeline because of greed and laziness.

Man that thing just looked terrifying. Like something that was originally thought up to go find an Imperial Star Destroyer, rip off its head and shit down its neck.

But all it could ever become was a prop in a Star Trek retelling of 9/11.

Is it ever explained why the Federation has such visible warp nacelles compared to other aliens? It just seems like it's a target that sticks out really easily for an enemy to shoot off.

No that I recall, but they'd probably say it's for safety. They can be destroyed without taking out the whole ship. In reality though, they originally designed the ship like a sled, and the nacelles were the runners. Somebody decided to flip it over, to make what we see today.

The canon reason is that it has to do with how Cochrane designed his warp drive system. Something about they have to be in a certain position, must be symmetrical, there must be 2 of them and there must be empty space between the nacelles.

Clearly lots of other races didn't give a shit about those rules. You see the Vulcan ship compared to Cochrane's ship in First Contact. There's not much similarity there.
