So it may not be an organizational mission but just criminals acting on the experience that Antifa gives them political cover to do criminal stuff. Politicians encouraging and protecting Antifa violence have a lot to blame too. |

Daughter's family lives across the street from the level 3 area in Molalla. She's got the kids and dog with family elsewhere and she's heading back to get more stuff to haul out. She said that Colton is being abandoned and that's got her worked up. I offered to help but I'm 6 hours away and she'll be done getting stuff long before I get there.

I live on the east side of Stayton. It's been an interesting three days. Outside my window right now looks like fucking Bladrunner 2049, without the holographic sex bots.
I know multiple people who lost their homes. I live on a dead end street, and I was the only one who didn't clear out on Tuesday. About half the homeowners are back now. We're still at Level 2 (prepare for evacuation) and all the shit I don't care to lose is staged right by the door and I can be out of here in less than 10. As far as I know they still haven't started any sort of official or coordinated S&R operations in the Santiam Canyon, but the Marion County Sheriff's Office reported last night that they have been "inundated" with calls for missing persons and calls from relatives who cannot make contact with loved ones in the area. On top of that, cell service in the area has been shitty for the last two days. Now we've got looters, too. A friend of my son lives out on Fern Ridge Rd. They're about halfway between Stayton and what used to be Gene's Meat Market (yeah, that's just a fucking metal roof in the middle of the lot now), just past that first set of big curves. Her family beat feet in the wee hours of Tuesday morning. Yesterday her stepdad went back to grab a few other things. Their front door was kicked in. They'd been robbed, and on top of that the fucks vandalized and busted up the house pretty good, too. As I said, Gene's is gone. Hopefully not too many people lost their year's worth of beef, pork, or game that was in the cooler waiting for processing or pick up. Contrary to previous reports, last I saw, the Gingerbread House was still there. Swiss Village, or what used to be Swiss Village before they shut down years ago is what burned. The portion of Lyons along Jennie Rd got hit hard. Mill City got it pretty bad. Gates, I'm told, is just fucking gone. I'd agree with previous posters who said Detroit is 80% destroyed. I don't think a single business survived. Most of the houses are just ash and a foundation, maybe a chimney. A local realtor who knows everyone in that area posted videos to her FB account and made them public, about 20 of them between 1 and 5 minutes each. It's her driving around Detroit calling out the names of each property owner with a shot of the lots and what's left so people can see if they lost everything. PM me and I can give you her name to search on FB. That fire has been burning since 08/16. Nothing has been done by our governor. Anyone with half a brain could see that it had the potential to burn right down the canyon, even without the unusual winds. She did nothing. Who cares, I suppose, since it's just a couple of podunky towns full of conservative voters and vacation homes for right-wing Trump supporters. The NG has FINALLY been activated, but it's too little too late if you live in any of the towns in the canyon since they probably won't show up until Monday. |

Quoted: I grew up in Scio. I know that area really well. It's terrible to see it all burning down. View Quote It breaks my heart. On Sunday the wife and I took the kids up to Clear Lake to hike around it and do some paddleboarding/kayaking. We drove through those little towns just two days before they were gone. The Santiam Canyon is one of the most beautiful drives in any time of year. Winter you get the snow on the evergreens, in the spring everything is coming to life, in the summer it's green and the river is low enough that the whitewater is really striking, and in the fall when the deciduous trees are turning they contrast amazingly with the evergreens. Weyerhauser and the Forest Service have been shutting down massive amounts of the public lands up there, but it's still a beautiful place to visit with so much to do if you love the outdoors. Now, it's just a fucking smoky wreck. And regardless of the rebuilding of private property, the government at both the state and federal level won't clear out the burned stuff. It'll sit there looking like the mother nature version of fucking Stalingrad. I'm 46. I've lived on the east side of Salem in Marion County my entire life. Nothing like this has happened in living memory. Luckily for us we have a strong, powerful woman at the helm of this state who has done sweet fuckall to stop or even slow this. And this story is unfolding not just in the Santiam Canyon. It's all up and down the I-5 Corridor, from Silver Falls State Park north to fucking Estacada, and out between Grand Ronde and Lincoln City. People who have never been here have no idea what's being destroyed. And that's just nature. We also have hundreds of families who lost not vacation homes, but their only home. That kid who burned to death? Roger Tofte's grandson? From what I was told they didn't get any notification and the fire was on them The family just got outside and everyone got split up. The kid and dog chose the wrong direction, probably blinded by smoke and darkness and certainly scared shitless. I know I would have been. I'm afraid of how many stories there are like that that we just haven't heard yet because this is still unfolding. |

I would drive from there to the McKenzie valley a couple times a year to camp and fish and soak in the springs back before so many people knew about them, just loved that area. |

We live in Salem pretty close to Hwy 22 where the fire is at. I took some pictures of the smoke Tuesday and it was orange and in the later afternoon a dark dark red. Like something out of a post apocalyptic movie. I even took my little 3 year old boy up to silver falls less then a week ago to hike around. Its pretty crazy.
I talked to some of our customers this morning that we support that live down Hwy 22 and a number of them have had their houses burned to the ground. Nothing is left. My wife grew up down in that area and their old house is burnt to the ground. Her family owned Poppa Al's Famous Hamburgers for a long time - I think its still sanding. None of them live down there now but its crazy to see it all get burnt up. |

I made three trips to that part of Oregon when I was a kid, from '76 to about 1980. I fell in love with the beauty of the area and planned to move there after I graduated. I never went back although I still have two sisters there. It's heartbreaking to watch it being destroyed.

View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: I haven't read the whole thread, so don't bust my chops. But, why would Antifa/BLM want to burn down Oregon? How is this supposed to help their cause, or hurt the rest of us? The goal is redistribution of wealth If everyone burns down, the insurance companies will go broke. Trying to confirm as that's 1 mile from my place View Quote I've got a friend who's parents live just outside of Aumsville. They're on a little dead end roadway that runs parallel to 22. Yesterday morning apparently there was a fire out of nowhere at the end of their road in the grass. It got put out within minutes, but there were no other fires anywhere nearby that this could have sprung off of. The nearest uncontrolled fire a that time was a good 15 miles away. However, to get to this road you'd just have to take the Aumsville exit and drive like 1/4 mile. About the same distance you'd have to drive if you took the golf club exit to start a fire near the golf club. |

I've got a line of evergreens about 500FT across the road I live on and right now they're just a slightly darker blur than the hill they sit on top of. |

View Quote Backroads supposedly are open just because there's not the manpower to close them all. 22 has downed trees all over it, but most have been chainsawed open with room for one vehicle. From what I've been told trees are continuing to fall. |

Quoted: They gave the 72 hour WARNO yesterday and are pulling everyone they can Red Card or not to assist. At the same time this is the governments fault for the shit contracts they negotiated this year. Compare the list for the last 3 year contract to this one and you won't even see half the assets avaible for region 6. The company Im with finally had 3 pickups activated, but probably won't be activating the dozers. View Quote I have an acquaintance in the guard. He's been going nuts. He's had guys calling him since Monday night wanting to know when they can come and get going on this fire. He told me he could have 75 guys in vehicles on the road up the canyon to man fire lines in less than 8 hours if the bureaucracy would permit it. However, he said as of now it'll be late Monday before they get anyone on site to do anything becuase of all the paperwork and hassle. Kate Brown hates the Guard. This is no secret. She also hates spending money on them. Why would she want to spend the better part of a million bucks to save tens of millions of dollars worth of homes that belong to people who won't vote for her? |
