The only thing even slightly damaging to the President in all of this is the Cohen stated under oath that he violated campaign finance laws "under direction" from the President "for the purposes of influencing the election".
Of course that has nothing to do with Russia and isn't even close to enough to impeach him (if it's true). |

Objectively, no I think Trump himself will be fine. However, expect the dems to hang their hats on this running up to the mid-terms. The actual substance of the convictions doesnt matter as much as the headlines they will be able to spin out of them.
Expect Trump to dip in polling over the next 1-2 weeks before bouncing back some. At that point we can get a better feel for how much damage we're looking at. We've got awhile until 2020 so the real concern here is impact on November 2018. |

The Manifort deal is absolutely disconnected from Trump.
The Cohen deal with the headlines that Trump pain hush money to influence the campaign is probably totally true. But...here are the facts. The hush money was paid to the porn star...and perhaps another woman/women...about sex incidents which were perfectly legal and if I'm not mistaken, before he and Melania were married. The women accepted the money for signing non-disclosure agreements not to talk about these consentual, adult encounters...just to not muddy the waters when Trump decided to run. So... the "influence" is paying someone in a legal manner to keep an embarrassing situation quiet so it wouldn't look bad to some voters who might be offended that a rich guy had sex with someone. At least this is how I understand the whole scenario. But you gotta admit it sounds a lot better when you use the words "hush money" and "influence an election", regardless of how legal and insignificant the whole issue might be. |
