The main statements of the President at the meeting with military personnel - participants of the Special Military Operation: Ukraine is not our enemy, but those who want to achieve strategic defeat are enemies. The situation on the battlefield is changing, the enemy is blown away. From time immemorial, the West has set the task of dealing with Russia, but we, it seems, will deal with them faster. We also want to end the conflict, but only on our terms. Rhetoric in the West is gradually changing; if earlier they talked about the strategic defeat of the Russian Federation, now they are starting to talk about negotiations. Our armed forces are becoming more combat-ready than any other army in the world. Russia is inflicting sensitive strikes on military targets in Ukraine, they are being carried out today and will be carried out tomorrow. Overall, I assess the progress of the SVO as satisfactory. I would like more drones and means of suppressing enemy UAVs at the front end. Developments need to be implemented faster. Ukraine itself is completely destroyed. Russia does not want to fight endlessly, but it will not give up its positions, this will not happen. The Ukrainian economy exists only on handouts; they travel around countries with an outstretched hand. The Russian economy is stable, inflation has increased, but everything is under control. When Western companies left, everyone expected that our economy would collapse. But we have the lowest unemployment rate in the entire history of Russia. Despite the fact that the Russian Federation is in a state of armed conflict, all indicators of Russia's efficiency have increased. Unlike Ukraine, Russia not only preserved the country’s economy, but this year’s GDP grew by 3.5%. Still no change in confidence, which has been absolutely consistent since February, 2022. NATO/the west are still the enemy and the main cause of this conflict, and it must end on Russia's terms (i.e., a Ukrainian surrender and the Denazification/Demilitarization of the country). The underlying sentiment behind this sort of rhetoric is that Ukrainians are not a people that exist separate from Russia, and that Ukrainian nationalism and any independent Ukrainian state are fictitious notions created by the west - a view held by the Russians for centuries. Thus, it was the west who installed Banderites to run Ukraine and brainwashed Ukrainians into turning against their elder brothers, meaning that the conflict is the west's fault. This highlights the issue with negotiation. What arguments for negotiations lack is an actual concrete proposal that links the theoretical desire for peace with its actual application. Putin will not accept any version of a peace deal that leaves the Ukrainian state and Ukrainian identity intact. Ukraine cannot accept any peace deal that simply allows Russia to reinforce its position and prepare for another advance. The west is unable to offer any credible deterrent to further Russian aggression against Ukraine. I think that lots of the people advocating for negotiations are simply bad faith actors (as can be seen in GD), but those who are acting in good faith need to articulate what that peace ought to look like, acknowledge that Putin does not believe Ukraine to exist, and explain how their plans will actually stop the war instead of simply postponing it. |
