I have only visited NYC on about a dozen times, always in Manhattan and always on business. It isn't a place I would voluntarily visit. Yes, it seems like some are overweight, but I see overweight cops in many areas I've traveled around the country. It seems to be a occupation hazard.
However, I doubt NYC cops are any more overweight than Chicago cops. I've visited Atlanta and Chicago more than any other large cities during my business career. Many times in Chicago. Cops in that city all seem to be overweight or pig fat. I'm sure there are normal size cops there, but visit after visit and I saw fatties in uniform. |

Actually, he was a squared away, high & tight, fit Marine type who made a lot of collars and wasn't afraid to roll around with perps. I'm not sure what happened, it all went downhill for him after that NYSP incident it seems. I never worked with him on the street since I was in the Detective Squad at the time. He used to bring his perps up to the Squad for debriefings. I was long retired before he put on all that weight. It doesn't even look like the same guy in that newspaper photo. Never figured him to be the kind to play the Ghetto Lottery (suing the city). |
