With audio.  Sounds like the saw is still running.

I knew that would happen.  Palm trees are very flexible in nature.

During the American Revolution the Patriots built Fort Moultrie of palmetto logs on Sullivan's Island which guarded the approach to Charles Town Harbor (now Charleston, SC).  When the Royal Navy under Sir Peter Parker (no spiderman powers) tried to force their way into the harbor to capture the city, they were shocked to see solid cannon balls bouncing off the palm log fort.

Looks like he was prepared for that but still I feel like there might have been a better method to safely accomplish that.

+1. He saw it coming.
It looks like he wasn't smart enough to tie it off and pulley it down.

Don't drop a line from the top to a ground post, that'd be too safety oriented.

Helluva lot safer than trying to cut it down at ground level, imo

Oh fuck no!

I topped a leaning 85ft Poplar last weekend. Found it leaning after the Labor Day storm. We hooked a pickup to it and put some tension on it to keep it upright while I climbed it. Top went out laterally and was still very large, about 8 inches in diameter where I cut it. Tree sat back up a good 3-4ft at that height which was totally expected. Cutting tops is a rush for sure, but fuck that shit, palm trees are stupid.
