When you replace the serpentine belt do you also replace the belt tensioner?
I have done it both ways, with and with out the belt tensioner.
All it takes for evil to succeed, is for good people to do nothing. We have been doing nothing long enough. I support Free speech.

Wiggle the tensioner pulley and see if it has play in it.
If you have a stethoscope or long handled screwdriver, listen for noise from the pulley as the engine is running.
If no noise and no play, just replace the belt.

It’s a call you have to make. What about the idlers? What about the power steering pump and alternator? Does the water pump have play? How does the harmonic balancer look? Oh damn, that front crank seal is leaking a bit… The coolant is drained, is a thermostat a good idea?

You can spend a couple thousand dollars “while the belt is already off”, or you can replace the belt and call it good.
