The more I look at it the more I like it.  I don’t like either the Nato or mesh bracelet.  I’d put it on a distressed leather strap.

I dislike the price tag the most though.  I really think an aluminum bezel at this price point is uncalled for. They could have lumed a ceramic bezel for that price.

I actually prefer the aluminum but would have done so without patina.

Craig is a huge watch collector and had a lot of input in the piece. Based on forum commentary it was a challenge to get a non wave dial on a SMP but he said it was a must for him. There’s a lot of SMP300 nods going on.

I can definitely agree with no wave dial on that color scheme.  I’m a fan of the sandy colored markers and bezel.  Especially on the matte dial.

Agreed.  I used to think ceramic was the only way to go.  I really hate it now.  Looks all plasticy and cheap.  I really prefer a nice coated aluminum bezel these days.  Plus, they wear and age really nice.

Dial symmetry. I still have a few and wear daily a watch with date but prefer dial layout of most non dates.

Usually coincides with traditional tool watches not having a date.

While common they are also less common if that makes sense.

[Last Edit: Shootindave] [#12]
Owning a couple vintage day/date automatic watches without any quick set date function will make you look real hard for a no-date if you are like me and wear a different watch everyday. I just want to pick it up, wind it a little, set the time and go. Having an incorrect day or date will bother me too much to even look at the watch. Also, the dials just look so much better without them. I have been wearing a day date with the full day up top....... I do enjoy that.

I was about to pull the trigger and then saw they also do not have a screw down crown like the other new Seiko "divers". Not a total deal breaker, but I have to think about it now.

The SKX007 has become a Seiko 5 w/o the screw-down crown. It does have a 4R36 hacking/hand-winding movement and drilled lugs, so that almost makes up for it being a sports watch instead of a diver. Should take all of the SKX parts for modding as well. Macy's has them for $200 and if you sign up for their email get another bunch of money off.

It’s because the Seiko 5 series is shitty fashion watches.  If you want the real deal, buy an SKX or a prospex.

I am not sure I would go as far as to say that. Seiko 5 is a perfectly fine entry level auto watch series. I like the compressor design because of how it looks and because I find a diving bezel useful at work to time things. But at the same time, all they had to do was put a screw down crown on it to make the 100m WR believable. My $40 Casio Duro has a screw down crown. They did upgrade to the hacking/handwinding movement which is nice. The SKX line is dead, so their entry level actual dive watch series is dead.

I just signed on to a special order, group buy for one of these.  Some of our guys that did a squadron order deal with Bremont in the past set it up. I'm not really a chronometer kind of guy, and I kinda wish it didn't have our company logo on it, but I've wanted a Bremont for a long time.  And the price was very, very good for this watch.

This is the Bremont I really want..One of these days when I can get enough OT.

I think it looks much better than the base 247 TI-GMT.  I just wish they had used our old company logo, or just left it off, and just gone with the new dial.  I would have liked the option to have our pilot wings engraved on the back, but the crystal back prevents that (and I'm not a fan of "display" backs)  I won't wear it at work, but I'm excited about the watch.  Still having some sticker shock, but I'll get over it.

If you have to have a company logo on your watch, that’s definitely one of the better ones. Imagine working for Depends or some such.

Gotta bump this before it archives...

Back in April'19 I sold the watch I said I'd never sell. It's been bugging me more and more so I started looking for a replacement. Since they've been discontinued for 4-5 years now I was having a hard time finding a decent specimen, then it dawned on me to see if I could just buy my watch back. Pinged the guy and he said he hasn't been wearing it, so BOOOM! Baby's coming back home!

Citizen Promaster BN0000-04H. Monocoque case, Eco-Drive, 300m. This was a 2014 watch that I got NOS and had a sapphire installed. (One guy loved these watches so much he had 100 crystals custom cut to match OEM dimensions). I've never been a fan of the dial and handset, but the entire presentation of this watch is one that is organic. It just disappears on the wrist, but it's still built like a tank. UK MOD issued them for a while to their RN Divers, and they were assigned NSN 0883-99-852-5953. They've since been replaced by the BN0150 and BN0190.

She should be home by next week.

Oh, and since I spent all that time looking for a new one I did find an ultra-rare UK version of the watch in Pepsi flavor. It should be here from across the pond in a couple weeks.

Been thinking about buying a single really nice watch and being done with buying/selling/trading and having multiple watches.  Just one watch for the rest of my life.

Not a Rolex fan.  Do not want something normally recognizable.

Thinking:
- Speedy Pro
- Navitimer - Either an original 809, 809 Cosmonaut, or the new 809 re-issue
- Black Bay 58

Probably wear mostly on a nato, leather nato, or leather band.  Not really a bracelet guy.
