Just ordered a Tacx Smart trainer from Amazon last night.  Trying to keep my teen kids (and me) in shape ahead of their XC race season in the spring.

Plan to pair it with Zwift.  Will that work over an Apple TV?  

What else do I need ?  Heart rate watch?  

Should I buy a trainer-tire to quiet it down?   Any Suggestions much appreciated!

Yes, Zwift works well with Apple TV.  I recommend a chest strap for HR...watches just aren't accurate yet.  Polar and Garmin have good options.  Watch is better than nothing though if its what you have.

I use a Wahoo Kickr so I'm not too familiar with wheel on trainers, but I'm guessing they would chew up regular tires pretty quickly.  A trainer tire might be a good choice.  Check out GPLama on YouTube... He has tons of videos and tutorials setting up trainers and getting Zwift up and running.

Right now, I use an older / 2006 mountain bike with my current “not smart?” trainer.

If you're strong, those trainer tires don't hook up very well. I use an old regular tire on my trainer, and after a while it gets sticky enough to put down some serious wattage.
