Is he religious?

Cos my first thought is, if he’s Catholic, you could have a mass said for him.

I’m not sure if other religions do this.

A gracious man would probably be thrilled with nothing more than a thank you. Saving her life should be enough of a reward. Steak and a handjob might go over well too.

Ask your mom if she knows anything about him. The UPS guy helped my GF when she compound fractured her leg at the bottom our driveway while I was traveling for work. I looked at his facebook page, noted a restaurant he and his wife liked. Bought him a gift certificate to said restaurant.

I doubt he wants any gifts.

If he’s will to help a choking person, a simple thank you would probably be enough.

Personal thanks and write a nice letter to their employer asking that he be recognized for saving another co-worker's life.  Even better if it's a big company, send it to corporate.

He might not want the attention. He did the right thing when it was needed, a thank you and gift of some sort is enough. Without knowing anything about the guy I second the idea of a gift certificate for a good meal-everybody has to eat.

Any attempt to monetize your sense of gratitude is a little off focus.

Call him, and have a conversation--a manly conversation which lets him know that YOU understand the gravitas of what he did, and that you want to express your thanks to him personally--and th enxt time you're in town you'd like to stop by his place of work and shake his hand.

That kind of no-shit acknowledgement is what will be remembered.

AFTER that is understood--you could (by the by) ask him if there is some small thing you could do for him, as a small token of your gratitude--does he perhaps drink Scotch, could you buy him and his wife/significant other dinner, does he need ammo, could your mom buy his wife a day of beauty someplace swanky (or whatever).

But the gift is secondary--it is your own sense of gravitas and gratitude that will actually be meaningful.

A 5x7 framed picture of your mom (maybe with you) with a hand-written note across the bottom saying, essentially, "thank you for saving my life".  Every time he sees it on his shelf he will smile.

Not very time efficient.  How about this.  You could rescue his mom from her burning house.  You could get that done in a single night.
