Hi all. Title says it all. Budget is $500.
Don't need anything fancy as there's just the two of us, and Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and Easter are the only heavy use days. Mostly looking for a few brand recommendations, especially those to stay away from. Thanks for your help arfcom! |

Bosch 800, extend your budget a few hundred bucks. I suppose you could get the 500, but the 800 has more sound reduction, maybe a few other things.

honestly, a $500 dishwasher is going to get you consumer grade garbage. I bought a $500 stainless steel tub maytag and I have had to replace the macerating pump thing and the upper sprayer arm. That was $100 in parts, and it is only 5 years old. I would spend the extra money and get whatever the highest rated upper end one is, or buy a used upper end one. or a pressure washer and some sort of tub you can use in the back yard.

If you can find a sale or rebate, go for Bosch. They are worth the money.

I've got a Whirlpool portable(on wheels) dishwasher. I did need to do a control panel replacement couple years back and found that same panel fit about 5-7 different models, along with a few other parts.
If you're looking for a built-in dishwasher, if you get a LG or something else, I bet when parts are needed, that many part(s) you need will fit numerous models. Find a dishwasher you like in the price you want. Same with the older Frigidaire "Crown" commercial dryer I'm fixing right now. Same parts fit about 10 other maker's of dryers. |
|
You're going to spend twice your budget to get a Bosch or Kitchen Aid (Whirlpool). That said, the new Bosch 800 series washers with Crystal Dry are God's gift to man.

Also, Bosch Ascenta at lowes is around $500 and is quiet enough that you can't tell its on. |

We put a Bosch in the new house. Old house had a high end ASKO that was great, twice the money at the time and there are no parts available anymore. New guys problem now. We have a basic dishwasher in our 2nd home and it's noise level demonstrates how quiet the Bosch is.

Easy.
There’s like thousands that cross the border daily. Just pick one. Like foreign made dishwashers shipped over here. On ships..... |
|
We have Frigidaire gallery or professional appliances. They have been good. Not too pricey. Can’t tell if dishwasher is running, the little green light that shines on the floor when done is the only way I can tell it has ran.

With the quality of major appliances going to crap, the good news is there's only a handful of brands to consider. In the case of a dishwasher, it's Bosch. You can buy a Bosch for $500, but that would be the bottom of the line. I'd recommend investing another couple hundred bucks.

We just bought a Kitchenaid to replace our 15 year old Whirlpool. I got it from what used to be Sears Outlet stores but is now American Freight. Home Depot and Lowes sell the same dishwasher for $950 and I got it for $611 out the door. They sell some scratch and dent as well as new in box appliances. This one was NIB. So far, I've been impressed. It's listed as 39 decibels and I can barely hear it running.

We have one of those expensive Bosch also, it's very quiet. We ended up getting a double wall convention/microwave too and that was $5k

That's what everyone told me on this site. Our Bosch 800 series sucks donkey balls. Doesn't clean well all the time, and doesn't dry for shit any of the time. It's quiet, but I'd rather have a noisier dishwasher that actually did its job. |

Thanks for the info folks. I guess I'll keep looking. Seems like people either love or hate them from the reviews.

Need more info op... do you like your cats steamed to medium rare or well done?

My input is hearsay and maybe outdated. Few years ago my wife was working for a home health care agency and, as part of her duties, supervised home care attendants, including teaching them to use customers' dishwashers. As far as she's concerned, Bosch has the most awkward tine arrangement.
I never looked into that because, regardless of the tine configuration, I refuse to buy a dishwasher without a built in disposer and heat dry. I don't really care about the sound level, I kinda hear my GE running when I'm really close to it but I don't spend my life kneeling on the kitchen floor. |

Bosch al day every day.
Opt for the upgraded quadruped detection and shutoff function Seriously though - Bosch all the way. Buy the highest model you can afford. You won’t regret it. Just be prepared for a long-ass lead time. |
|
Bosch is the only way, I didn’t understand until I owned one. Will never go back .

Has anyone in this thread checked stock on a Bosch dishwasher of late? I was told Sept. at the earliest with no waiting list. I searched online high and low and finally found found *ONE* 300 in stock at a local appliance store and they told me the same thing. Bosch supply chain has gone to shit.
Figure out what you want. Search diligently and buy it NOW. |

Maybe you can fix what you got. What's yours doing or not doing?
I like fixing things. My early 80's dishwasher was leaking, turned out just a bad hose. I ended up going with transmission line hose, works great. Saved me $500.00. |
|
Very happy with our Bosch 100 series. Stainless tub, $540.
I am sure you can get nicer ones, but this one is no bullshit, and it washes dishes. IMO the more features, the more shit to go wrong. |

Old DW was a freebie contractor grade that we got 10-11 years out of before the motor died about the same time the pump cracked and started leaking. Not worth fixing tbh. |
