If you are going charcoal just get a traditional kettle and call it good.

|
|
Having the attached prep table is nice, but its a lot more expensive than just the kettle, which is exactly the same.

Yes. I use mine probably 4 times a week. I didn't get the cart, but could see it being useful. Get cast iron grates for it.

I don't want a Green Egg or Kamado View Quote Best part for me is that when your done cooking you close the vents and it snuffs out the fire. So you use very little fuel, and just reuse the left over coals. Plus you can grill or smoke with the same unit. |

If you don't want an Egg then just buy a Kettle and save a bunch of money.

Doesbt want a ceramic grill but a shitty Weber with crap charcoal
Enjoy the coal dust LOL |

I went with Old Smokey after a recommendation from some in GD.

Get a cast iron grates for it and it will be perfect.
Also get yourself a 5 psi adjustable regulator to replace the one on the grill. You'll be much happier with it's performance |

Get a cowboy cauldron, OP. We are doing a bunch of landscaping this year and that is on my list. Firepit + grill.

But why not a kamado? I have the pit boss one from Costco and it's great. Love it way more than a Webber kettle. I have one and the cart really comes in handy. So does the propane starter since it gives you a clean start on a chimney full of charcoal.
OP, take a look on your local offer-up. I was able to get two of them for under $100 each. One of them looked like it was only used once. |

You can find weber’s for 30 bucks online all the time. If you have a good budget then I’d seriously take a look at an hasty bake or assassin 36” or 48” grill.

I have the base model 22” kettle. That grill will be just fine.

Just get a Weber kettle. Can smoke stuff with it too. Happy with mine. Would like a ceramic grill eventually.

Go with the Weber performer deluxe. It has the propane starter for the charcoal. I've had one for about 10 years. Money well spent.

Doesbt want a ceramic grill but a shitty Weber with crap charcoal Enjoy the coal dust LOL View Quote I had used weber grills for over 30 years. Must have owned at least 10. Loved them all until I broke down and bought the ceramic komado. Komado grill are more versatile than any other design to date IMHO. Had a guy tell me he could do anything on his weber that I could do on my komado. Really??? Smoke a butt, ribs or brisket and hold temp a@ 210 degrees ? Yes. Haha. Gonna tend it like a mama hen and once it goes south....u r dun. Grill a turkey and hold temp @ 325? Tenderloin? Meatloaf? Chicken? Pizza on a stone @ 500? Sear steaks & lamb chops @ 700? The versatility of cooking the kamado design is capable of is beyond compare. The quality of the food served from the komado is excellent. There is a learning curve to komado cooking. Regulating the air to produce consistent temps is not hard to learn. Lump charcoal can be enhanced with other woods for different flavors of smoke. Save up, buy the kamado. Your kids will fight over it when you leave the planet. Your Weber(s) will be somewhere in a landfill with mine. That is all. |

Can’t hold temps and you’ll go through a lot of lump. Kamado’s are the same principle of adobe/clay/brick ovens that have been around since mankind made settlements. A kamado style grill is so much more versatile than a Weber or Char-grill but hey whatever. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

I have one... It's a good grill and I like the built-in prep table / gas start. Now that the less expensive ceramic grills have been out for a few years. I would lean towards one of those and build my own prep table.
