With all the hosts on TV younger than me now, why oh why are men still wearing ties?
They aren't comfy, they aren't practical, most businesses do not insist on them being worn, and I thought the younger people would have abandoned them by now. oh yeah and they were invented by the Turkish military - another reason not to like them. not even required at weddings and funerals these days (unless it's YOUR wedding ... or funeral!) |

Buy a shirt that's fitted properly and learn to tie more than one knot.
I never even notice when I wear a tie. |
|
They make you look sharp when done right. Wore one to my sister in law's funeral yesterday. Wanted to look my best for a special woman. Fuck leukemia.

I like telling people they are a phallic symbol, meant to demonstrate a large penis. I mean, look at it. Why do you think it’s been so popular for so long? Don’t you think men look better with a tie on? It’s just a leftover symbol of patriarchy.
...I really enjoy the vaporlock when you say that in a business setting. Especially progressive business types who take PC culture in the workplace VERY seriously. Is it true? IDK. Is it funny? Lololol YES |

Just wear a nice black dress OP that’ll probably be more your speed

They are considered a sign of formality and respect. We are required to wear them for court appearances and formal speaking engagements.

If millinnials had worn neckties, they'd now be a symbol of faggotry, like they did with beards.

when the world wore ties I didn't
when the world stopped wearing them I started Raymond Reddington doesn't follow trends and he wears a tie never trust a man in a bowtie |
|
I don't care for them and do not wear them to anything other than funerals. They're pointless and uncomfortable. OP should be prepared for an onslaught of triggered boomers making "your husband" jokes though.

Your grandfather won the war in a tie. Don't look like trash.

Black Under Armor mock turtle neck and a tweed blazer are all a man needs for a classy wardrobe.

They are still required in a lot of work places and government jobs.
And President Trump wears one all the time doesn't he? Almost all Western leaders, etc. still wear ties (the men at least). It does not appear to be going away anytime soon. |

Somebody call the hippie museum. OP is missing from his exhibit!

I had to wear a tie every working day for years. Now on the infrequent occasions that I am compelled to wear one I remember just how much I hated it.

They can look nice, but damn are they a pain in the ass. I never want to wear a tie again.
|

Sorry OP. I know, being an adult male is difficult at times. I encourage you not to give up!

I'm sure all the fellows 300 years ago thought they looked great in their powdered wigs.
Times change, fashions change. Sometimes outdated things just need to go away. |

Ties are dumb and industry wise, dangerous.
If you come to my office in a suit and tie you’ll be asked not to leave the conference room, politely. |
|
Your tie can say a lot about you. The tie itself, how you wear it, and so forth. Just depends on what you want to say.

Yes and bow ties also. But mostly suit jacket and it depends on the client and city.

I know there is a guy who's 100% tattooed, never wears clothes i business meetings and has over 50 cock ring piercings and he's worth 500 million dollars from running his own dildo business (the exception, not the rule). the White wigs were because they shaved their heads due to lice, and being white meant they were listening to God. Our founding fathers were more brilliant than any leaders working today. |

I'm wearing a tie right now. Not a big deal. If the tie is choking you, you're doing it wrong.
ETA: I also throw in a bow tie occasionally to break up the monotony. |

This place is thick with boomers this morning |
