First of all I'm typing this on a tablet and pissed off as all hell, so sorry if I don't type this out very well. I'm just spewing my thoughts onto the page as I think them.
I've been out from work sick since last Thursday, came home after doin a half day at work today to find my house broken into and safe stolen. Only lived here a few months and the only people that know my new address, and that I own a safe are my parents, sister, a few really close family friends, and some heating contractors that just installed my heat pump last month. One of the contractors could to be in on it, at least partially. This was the first time I left my house in 5 days, and I was only gone six hours. They had to have been prepared to deal with moving a safe, I barely got it in the house with 3 dudes when it was empty, it had 49 guns in it when they got it out of my house. I live in a suburban neighborhood with lots of traffic, and all my neighbors are retired seniors that are always suspicious of everything. Anytime there is a car in my driveway they don't recognize, they will pop over just to make sure everything is on the up and up. Unfortunately no one saw anything this time, but there are a few cameras that may have caught something. Insurance is only going to cover 3-5 k (max firearms coverage without riders). I had a lot more coverage on my renters insurance, but hadn't gotten around to setting up the riders on my home owners. I'll be out about 36k including some cash I had in the safe as well. I'm out every single gun I owned, except for the g48 I was carrying today. I was broken into at my rental 3 years ago before I owned a safe and they only got 3 of my guns. I guess moral of the story is either don't buy a safe, or go all in on the most expensive safe and bolt it to the ground. I probably won't get back into firearms as a hobby, just get a few more pistols for self defense, and hide them really well. I have all my make, model, and serial numbers in a spreadsheet that I gave to the cops, but I could tell they knew there is a slim chance that I will ever see them again. They said with that many stolen the ATF might get involved. Don't know if that's a good or bad thing. Holy shit, that sucks. Good lesson for me to call insurance. Moving a safe like that must have taken a crew with specialized moving tools
So sorry OP. You might want to post serial numbers on the stolen firearms page so people can keep an eye out for them.
Just reading that makes me feel sick. I can’t imagine walking in the house and seeing that.
Sorry OP. Fingers crossed they find all of most of them while busting the dickless SOB thief trying to sell them. |
Damn op. That is a Heartbreaker. Hope the bastards who stole from you get buried under a federal prison.
Did they take anything else? |
Was your safe not bolted down? Just curious but what part of the state are you in?
Damn that sucks. This is why I anchor my safe to the floor AND hooked up to my alarm system.
Holy shit that sucks. Hopefully some cameras grabbed something.
You really needed your own camera system. |
Damn. That just fucking sucks.
50 guns in a safe? That has to weigh over 400 pounds. You have to plan a heist like that. Contractors seem to be the primary suspects, unless you let anyone else in to do work? |
36 guns in one safe? They needed major moving equipment and a serious truck. You’re right inside job.
Also hard to buy what you want in WA. Sorry to hear. Hope you can get the cops to pay enough attention to push hard on the contractor |
The cameras will catch someone. That is not a smash and grab level robbery.

Holy mother of god OP...I'm very sorry. Not a great way to spend the holidays.
Couple thoughts: 1. Check local and regional pawn shops until the end of Feb or so. 2. Use Riverofguns to search for some. Same with local firearms classifieds. 3. Toss the SNs on the forum here. |

Sorry to here this op.
I would suggest a multi tiered approach (Safe bolted to the ground, An alarm system, cameras, leaving your iPad inside which can be tracked etc) for those reading this. I hope the Police are diligent and review cameras in the area. You might have to do some of the leg work yourself. I suggest that you visit Pawn shops and gun stores on your days off for the next few weeks starting from closest to farther out. Hope you get your guns back. |

If it was me, I'd be driving past every contractors shop right now, assuming they have one, looking.

Bank cameras could wait till Thursday but if your neighbors have cams I'd ask them asap.
My camera system only saves my motion clips for a day. |

Sorry to hear that, what model safe was it by chance? View Quote |

Canvas your neighborhood to see if anyone saw something. And especially look for neighbors who have security cameras that may have recorded the thieves and/or their vehicles.
Sounds like the contractors put their dollies, hand trucks and work truck lift gates to work. Ask if your neighbors have doorbell cameras. When some shit bag walked our neighborhood checking car doors, we got him on a few motion activated doorbell cameras. Maybe they have footage of the vehicle.

I'm sorry OP.
What safe was it? ETA: disregard. Saw your reply |
Whats really fucked up is those thieves if caught will get a slap on the wrist yet if you broke any antigun laws would be made an example of.
Damn...that sucks...sorry OP. Do you think anyone saw you move it into the house?
Wow. That is horrible. So sorry to hear that, OP.
It's a reminder and lesson to all of us. LAYERS OF SECURITY. 1. PERSEC and OPSEC 2. Surveillance (Cameras) 3. Monitoring and Deterrence (Alarm System) 4. Exterior Physical Access Control (Locks, Reinforced Doors, etc) 5. Interior Security (Locked Solid Core interior door with reinforced jambs, Bolted Down Safe) 6. Consistant vigilance to make sure all of the above are actively deployed. A determined thief can defeat most anything, but make it difficult enough so that it's not worth the trouble. 900 LB Safe moved by 2 guys with an Electronic Dolly Moving s 900 lb Gun Safe Browning Medallion With The Escalera Electric Dolly |

Can the cops check the rap sheets of the contractors who were in your house, or is that not a thing they can do?
I almost wonder if someone actually blabbed, instead of a contractor doing it maybe he was at his cousins house drinking beers and mentioned that some guy who just moved into their friend Jimmy’s old house had a huge safe and all sorts of gun stuff. Or, what about the moving company? Coworker who knew the hours you would be gone today? I wonder how long something like this takes. I would be all over your neighbors Ring cameras, on Christmas Day. Don’t wait and risk the footage storage being erased by whatever company they are using. |
