That is on his pocket knife. The old ways aren't completely dead.

I did the same. Ants and green army men didn’t stand a chance.

I remember burning a few bugs learning this craft as a child...

He sounds ready for match stick guns.
I did them a little different where they would light as they shoot. Mini Matchstick Gun - The Clothespin Pocket Pistol |

I used a magnifying glass to put battle damage on my GI Joe vehicles. Looked cool

He got a late start but that's ok. Had all this tech shit been around in the 70's I probably wouldn't have gotten to burning shit with the power of the sun until later in life either.

Yes, but is he using the magnifying glass to light off a roll of caps?

Thats about the age I decided to hit a 209 primer with a hammer and screwdriver at face level on a barnstone wall.
How I didn't lose an eye is a miracle. |

I never understood the fascination of burning ants with a magnifying glass. I used kerosene for bigger flames.

I wasn't much older than that when I learned that, while it is easy to ignite black powder with a magnifying glass, it is impossible to get your hand away before being singed.

Y'all didn't grow up with fire ants, that shit didn't work out for you. Like fighting a Japanese banzai charge with a muzzle loader.

Chucked-up an emptied 20ga shell in a vise. Hammer and nail. Wanted to see how big the "flame" would be. The nail/prime cup combo bounced of my left hand thumb and forefinger before lodging in the garage roof. Biggest blood blisters I've ever had. Couldn't hear my mother yelling at me til my ears stopped ringing. Kind of a one-and-done sort of thing... |
