Well okay maybe not Mr. Bean, but Rowan Atkinson

This is a couple of years old, but it shows that at least some people in the entertainment industry are willing to stand up (no pun intended) and be counted when it comes to saying what you want regardless of other people getting upset.

In full: Rowan Atkinson on free speech

He does make a good point about Constable Savage...

Great speech.

One of the finest scenes in TV history.

That scene also inspired a Mythbusters episode.

He's a good guy.

He's a pretty big car nut too.

He takes his cars to the track even, even wrecked a couple.

Quite the character and not just on the television.

You missed the bit about his 178 IQ while you were gushing over him...

But while it's off topic I guess I can contribute... another favourite of the masses, that guy from The Office.

Free speech is good, but what about those maggots screaming obscenities at the WH guests after trumps acceptance party.  One example of many.  They were right on the edge of physical violence.   Guests were just walking in the street and there were maggots screaming and accusing them of all sorts of hideous things.

At what point does civility come into things? Nobody says you have to be civil...

"Manners cost nothing, civility costs nothing but pride."

Of course if those "hideous things" werent true, then that brings us to slander land libel laws... which in turn, in most cases, is something only afforded to the rich as a recourse... hmmm a justice system only available to the rich.

It should be noted here... nobody objected to your right to call them maggots.

So, has The effort to retract the hate speech law gotten anywhere in Britain?

That's probably one for the members on that side of the pond, but my guess would be no.

I believe there have been a couple of court cases where the judge affirmed the right of the defendant to express themselves and that the person complaining didnt have a right to be offended.

Govt doesnt give up power willingly, and scope creep, like here is all about interpretation. The chances of the little people being protected are minimal.
