Here I’ll talk about Minecraft.

Why? Because a new update is maybe a month away. Current is 1.16 soon 1.17.

This thread is for parents that don’t play the game but wonder what their kids want to play it.

I can pretty much explain everything but will not explain redstone, that takes too much typing. Search YouTube for JCplays for a redstone explanation.

The game, in survival mode start to credits:

There actually is a game it’s not just digging holes.

So in basic form, I explain the core.

Cut down a tree
Build wooden tools
Dig down collect stone
Build stone tools
Dig down collect iron
Build iron tools
Dig down to collect diamonds, you need iron tools to collect diamonds (height 11)
Build diamond armor and tools

At this point: there are three levels of existence.

It’s the Overworld, which you normally spawn.
Then the Nether,, which is described like Hell.
And last the Endworld,

Next create an Obsidian Gate and go to hell.

Find a fortress and kill Blazes

Go back to the overworld

This is the tricky point, but eyes of Enderman.

Find the stronghold

Locate the end portal

Ender dragon fight game credits at this point, but the game isn’t finished.

Although the credits roll , the game is still not ended

Elytra, the ultimate goal. It is wings to allow flight.

That’s the basics of Minecraft.

Of course theirs a shit ton more but that’s the basics.

/cheers to the parents, enjoy gaming with your kids.

I played minecraft almost every day since it has come out.
Valheim came out and I haven't touched minecraft since.
I'll play again and start a new world when the update drops.

For my niece and nephew it's more of watching people on youtube play it over playing it themselves.

I thought the draw of minecraft was the capability of building and being creative.

My understanding is that everything you outlined was the "game" behind getting materials so you could build something.

There are two modes

1. Creative - God mode, infinite resources, can fly, build anything.

2. Survival - Gather resources, build stuff, survive, kill the dragon.

I bought it back in the pre alpha days. If I had time I'd pick it back up, I bet there's a few new features in the last dozen or so years.

I have no part, but more frustrating than boring.

Of all the games I have played, this one I lost the most trying to finish it. The Enderdragon killed me maybe 5 times, maybe 6?

When you die everything drops on the ground. You have 5 minutes to get it back.

I tried on a tablet vs a pc

I play minecraft with my kids, 7 year old has been playing since 4ish, and my now 4 year old is starting to play.  He's still figuring out the mouse/keyboard stuff.

Fantastic game.

Redstone, sort of like electricity, is one of the best parts of the game and watching my 7 year old work through and figure out an OR gate with redstone is a pretty great.

We spend about an even amount of time between survival maps and creative maps working on automatic farms or just silly stuff he thinks up to make.

Kind of.

And some folks do crazy stuff with it.  Here's a computer built out of redstone parts.

Survival of the fittest would be corralled villagers.

Meaning you put them where you want them through rails and mine carts.

A lot of modern engineering starts with design programs that's basically virtual legos.

There are also multi player games like bed wars you can play

Years ago when my son played Minecraft, he kept talking about some Hugh O’Brien person.

Took me awhile to figure out he meant Herobrine.

Minecraft is like turtle was back in the day, extremely simple on first examination but the complete opposite when you go look deeper into it.

Was watching a youtube video with the kids the other day about Conways game of life and they referenced a youtube video where someone built a quad core processor in minecraft.

I’ve seen videos on YouTube of that server and have no desire to even join it.

The place looks like shit, why would anyone join it?
