Mike Johnson: Senate Won’t Pass Bill on Border Security This Year

By Eric Lendrum
April 24, 2024

The office of Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-La.) acknowledged that it is increasingly unlikely that the U.S. Senate will pass a major bill on border security between now and the election at the end of the year.

According to Fox News, the spokesman from Johnson’s office said that the most likely scenario under which any border security legislation can pass is if former President Donald Trump wins the November election and returns to power. Until then, with Joe Biden in the White House and Democrats narrowly in control of the Senate, such a bill will likely never clear the Senate.

“House Republicans have passed multiple border security bills – including our signature Secure the Border Act, Laken Riley Act, and Consequences for Social Security Fraud Act – which have been ignored by the Democrat Senate and proves their unseriousness when it comes to dealing with the border catastrophe,” the spokesman pointed out. “Democrats have only proposed measures for political cover that won’t fix the problem, and Republicans are not going to let the White House accept anything less than transformative change.”

The remarks come after the House overwhelmingly passed a $95 billion aid package also proposed by Johnson, which supported such countries as Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. Unlike the staunch Democratic opposition to any border legislation, the foreign aid package passed with bipartisan support, including half of the Republican members.

Conservatives in the House have criticized Johnson for failing to work border security into the foreign aid package, which would have forced Democrats to either support it or keep up the legislative stalemate.

“The only path forward for substantive border legislation was to leverage the Biden regime’s push for more Ukraine aid,” said Congressman Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) on X last week.

Throughout the presidential primaries this year, Republican voters have overwhelmingly indicated in exit polls that immigration is their top issue ahead of the general election, thus boosting the already-strong campaign of President Trump, who has vowed to secure the southern border and enact a nationwide deportation operation.

Better pass more Ukraine aid instead

And they still won't pass it in 2025 when GOPE controls 87% of CONgress and Trump is in The Oval Office with pen in hand ready to sign.

Good thing he's worried about Ukraine's border security first.

I guess they should’ve put in the Ukraine/Israel/Hamas aid bill. Republicans get played time and time again.

What a fucking clown.

This country is fucked because we allow 500 incompetent bureaucrats to jerk each other off in the marble halls of the ruling class while making rules up for 300 million of us.

Mike, enjoy being Speaker for the next few months.

After that, no matter who wins you will go back to being completely forgotten, inconsequential human being.

How is he going to get a veto proof majority to pass actual border funding?

Sure. Fuck the country you're supposed to serve. Keep sending our money overseas.

The Ukrsine bill had $4 000,000 000 of open border funding in it.  We are paying for them to be brought here.

Even if they did pass a bill, it doesn’t mean they’re going to secure the border.  The border is worse since FJB publicly invited everyone in, but the Republicans were taking money to leave it open before that.

Good.  The only law they could pass this year would be left-wing garbage.

Enforce the laws we already have.  Problem solved.

They don't want the border secure.

Any 'border funding' is to make it easier and more streamlined for illegal African and Middle Eastern military aged men to stroll into the US.

The border could be solved with 1/10th of current funding and better 'tactics'.

The border security bill should have been required to pass before any talk about funding foreign countries took place.

The Republicans gave away any leverage they had when they passed the Ukraine/Israel border bill.  While only controlling the House by a thin majority and Democrats controlling the Senate and WH, they could have at least gotten SOMETHING out of that ridiculous bill.  Bad enough that they we willing to pass it which shouldn't have happened, but to not include anything important or relevant to Republican causes is just straight up laughable and pathetic.

We don't need a bill.

We just need to stop doing what we are doing and enforce the INA.

Any "border security" bill is just more processing and releasing of aliens.

Stopping HHS and DHS from funding NGO's would be great, too. No bill needed for that.

They need to keep the fund raising machines going on both parties, there isn't as much to be raised when there is no crisis.

The current immigration laws are more than sufficient to end all illegal immigration. The problem is, no matter what laws are in the books, if they are not enforced, it will not matter.

Term limits and salary based upon stopping illegal immigration would sure end this problem really fast.

Basically this, but with more pride, Ukranian and Mexican flags.

More "It's complicated" bullshit.

Border (noun) - 1. a line separating two political or geographical areas, especially countries.

The primary issue isn't with "social security".  It isn't with crime.  It isn't with asylum seekers.  It isn't with processing. We don't need to pass bills

PHYSICALLY SHUT IT THE FUCK DOWN.  If people can just walk across your border, you don't have one.  Without a border you don't have a country.  Period.

No matter how much it is needed, a compromise immigration bill would not satisfy the Republican base.  It would also undercut Trump's largest campaign plank.

Finishes building the wall would be a good start.  Funds deporting people or whatever Joe Biden is claiming isn't funded which is why needs to release all them inside the US.  The point is Speaker Johnson and the RINO Republicans made no effort to do anything to secure the border (again) but worked the weekend to throw more money at Ukraine.

The Ukraine funding bill he just championed includes approximately $3 Billion to help bring in more immigrants.

The Federal government is taxing Americans so heavily that the U.S. fertility rate is down across all ethnic groups in the USA, all of them.  Young people aren't getting married anymore. They're using people up like slaves and just bringing in new people to replace us as slaves rather than back off a single inch.
