I recently found out that Mexicans are really fond of mayonnaise. In fact there were 40 tons of authentic French mayonnaise on board the Titanic when it foundered and sank in the North Atlantic on April 14th, 1912. The shipment of mayonnaise was to be transferred to a Mexican steamship in New York, and sent onward to Vera Cruz, Mexico.
News of the disaster did not reach the Mexican port until about 3 weeks after the loss of the Titanic, and every year they commemorate the sinko de mayo.
