| How often do they eat? I had a friend as a kid that had a wolf hybrid. I think it ate like 4 or 5 times a week. Never felt at ease around that dog. Always felt like it was watching you. Protected the hell out of those kids though. |

They eat quite a bit, each of those bowls in my other pic is for one animal for one day, we feed them 6 days a week then fast for a day. In the wild they can eat 25+lbs in one sitting, then fast for almost a month. Wild or captive, they also love to bury food to have little caches for later. Every time we clean out pens we end up having to dig up little stinky slimy meat chunks 🤣 Going to be headed out in a bit now that it's dark out to feed and clean water buckets, I'll shoot for a little NV video for yall |

Honestly the meat smell isn't too bad, Im kinda nose-blind to it at this point, Ive had wolfdogs for the majority of my life. We go through and clean the enclosures at least once a week, usually twice a week is commonplace though. When we go through our deworming preventative/feed kibble is when the cleanup is the worst though. Wolves and high content wolfdogs dont digest kibble like dogs do, so these is TONS of runny shits. Some aim their shits too, Guardian is famous for pressing his ass to the fence and shitting into the hallway between pens where we walk

Wow! Cool thread. We had a wolf dog next door growing up named Sandra. We used to pet her through the fence and occasionally got to play with her in the yard. She was very fun and loved getting let. She would howl/bark like a husky when we would play in the backyard because shebwanted us to cone over and pet her. Its great you are helping out all of those animals! Too many people get high string or animals that take actual work to deal with and figure out they can't hack it. Too bad they don't figure that out ahead of time. |

Aside from my pure husky, we have one other dog on the property who was a rescue and brought in to act as a nanny for one of the wolf dogs that came in as a puppy. Aside from that we have the standard rural Alabama wildlife like deer, coyotes, possums, trash pandas, etc. The one that I miss is the fact that there's no Ravens out here, only crows. Corvids are all extremely intelligent birds, but Ravens actually have a symbiotic relationship with Wolves that I got to see all the time back in Colorado. |

Big days ahead! Backstory: Up until this past October we've had no electricity or running water here at the sanctuary. There was a hand pump well and a little harbor freight solar panel setup for keeping phones and flashlights charged. Our "cabin" is a modified carport building that was enclosed by tweakers, and it shows. Our freezers for the wolf food were kept off-site and we had to do daily runs to get meat out to defrost. In October and November I installed and hooked up power to the cabin, and running water so now we can flush the toilet without pouring water from a bucket down it. My wife did this daily through 2 rounds of chemo, and carrying 5g water buckets to each enclosure to clean and refill wolf water buckets. When I moved out here I was able to take a bunch of the load off her since we combined my Colorado sanctuary with hers here, and I started collecting the stuff to get power and water in. Once we had power we moved the chest freezers for wolf food to the property and set them behind the cabin. No matter the weather we are out prepping their food and taking care of them, and inclement weather and wasps make the food prep rough at times. Current time: I got a 12x24 portable building dropped from one of the shed builders nearby. We have some donated styrofoam panels from a warehouse nearby that was torn down so I'm using these to insulate the building. This is going to be the new home of our freezers and equipment that we want to keep away from the local meth heads. I got the building dropped at the lower part of the property where it's a lot easier to unload boxes of meat and supplies from the trailer vs carrying it down a nasty driveway and though the property to the current freezer location. We also got our first real fridge in the cabin yesterday! Got a used Frigidaire from a local thrift store for $150 and brought that home, previously we've just made do without and kept freezer stuff in with the wolf food if need be 😂 My wife thinks she's spoiled now with hot and running water and electric lighting 🤣 Attached File Attached File |

Most Sanctuary people know each other, at least in passing or on social media, after her and I collaborated together on some projects it became a long distance relationship. After we figured out that it wasn't a passing thing we started trying to see who would be able to make the move the easiest. Me having the vehicles and trailers, somewhat of an income, and less animals to move is what made the choice for me to come out here rather than her come out to Colorado. Now, we're trying to lay out all of the steps to up and move everything to Colorado in 2026. By herself though there is no way she would have been able to make that move so it just makes sense this way |

This is an awesome thread. Thank you for posting and thank you for taking care of these awesome creatures. My aunt ended up with a wolf/GSD mix. It was a friend of a friend, who moved out of town. It was either she took him or he went to the pound. Before coming to live with my aunt, Sarge spent most of his youth locked in a dog run with the largest black lab I had ever seen. He was people friendly but spooky and he had no manners. I remember skiing behind that dog as a kid. She snipped his balls, took him to obedience training, and got him fat on scrambled eggs and cheese. He turned out to be one of the sweetest dogs. |
| They really can be great animals, even my little shithead Aspen who I call Asspain is actually a really good girl. She's spooky around most people, and can't be around other female animals but she's so sweet and playful with people she loves |

They are absolutely a blast! Don't get me wrong, they can definitely get spicy at times, even the most social and even keeled ones. I emancipated at 16 and got one from a newspaper classified ad because I always liked wolves. I had no idea what I was in for, and looking back now should never have been sold one. Most likely case in Arizona back then was people killing the adults and stealing wild wolf pups from the dens to sell. I ended up having her for 15 years until she passed of old age, even had her in base housing for a while. She escaped on me ONCE and was only missing a few hours before I found her, but finding out that animal control would just keep her and euthanize instead of giving her back if they caught her always stayed with me. Nowadays some will contact a sanctuary if they get a wolfdog, but most will just euthanize no matter how low the wolf percentage is, how quick the owner tries to get the animal back, and how social the animal is. They're great animals, and they need looking out for. Growing up Tundra looked out for me (more emotionally than security-wise), the least I can do is look out for her kind |

Big day today! After cleaning up storm damage and repairing fences, I'm trying to finish off a new enclosure for Loki and Shiba to move into where they have more space to play, and getting things ready for a new guy who is due in this evening! ARF, meet Gunnar. 11 months old, was emaciated, wormy, and unhandled. Before bringing him here we had to keep him off-site for his vetting and med care, and he got snipped a bit early while they were at at.
