Here is an excellent one not mentioned above, and it is on Netflix right now. The Siege of Jadotville. It's about 10 years old, but it is a true story about an Irish contingent of untested peacekeepers sent to the Congo in 1961. No fortifications. Outnumbered 20:1. I'm always surprised at how many people have never seen Flight of the Intruder. Such a good cast and story. Watched it in the theaters with my dad after reading the book. Years later I was in Subic Bay myself and made me think of that movie (even though it was filmed in Hawaii). It's always so much better when the Navy allows you to film on actual ships vs movie sets. |

In a certain way Mister Roberts told of a side nobody mentions. The poor bastards that spent the war bored to tears performing menial (but VERY much needed) tasks. They ought to make a meaningful movie of some poor bastard assigened as a weather observer in the Aleutians or something along those lines. 1 out of 8 to 10 saw actual action. The rest were busy as hell keeping that guy in combat. They also served. |

Nothing extravagant, just one of the swabbies running for the slit trenches at the beginning of the flick.

Von Ryans Express Never so few None but the brave The Naked and the Dead The Devils Brigade Where Eagles Dare Force 10 from Navarone Eta: while it might not be “lesser known” Everyone, who hasn’t seen it, should watch Lawrence of Arabia once. IMHO it has one of the best soundtracks and best cinematography ever put on film. The scale of some of the scenes is unbelievable. |
