Seriously, considering when it was established, under who's administration it was established, is there any doubt that it was designed to be a progressive entity? Why do we have it? do we really need it? Just how did we survive without it for well over a century?

In the early years, silver served as the currency.  (Technically, both gold and silver, but in fact, primarily silver).  During the silver war, fiat currency, known as greenbacks circulated.  After the Civil War the "Crime of '73 put the nation on the gold standard.  Even after the Federal Reserve was established, we were on a gold standard until 1933.

If you dismantle the Fed, what do you propose as a repacement?

Short version: So that government and bankers could be free to spend as much as they wanted for whatever they wanted without our currency being tied to hard assets or actual production.

We got along without it so long because we were a production based economy and our value was based on our ability to produce.

We have become dependent on a system that allows for runaway spending and huge entitlement budgets. For all of the people who want the fed to be dissolved or audited....can we actually move away from this system without crashing everything?

Thank you. I don't know if we could but it seems to me that what we had was a bit safer and more reasonable. Deficit spending to the levels our government has done it is never good.

Everyone from Thomas J to Alexander H to Jackson had lots of arguements on the topic.  In the end, they found out the hard way the govt can't function without it.  This is one fight not worth it, have to have the Fed
