I recently purchased a Ruger America Ranch in 5.56.
I'd like to put a 1x6 or 1×8 Lpvo scope on it There are a lot of options but I'm having a hard time finding exactly what I'd want. I'd like to have a relatively simple reticle without a lot of bells and whistles. An illuminated reticle is not necessarily a high priority. Durability is very important to me. I'd like to hear what some of you maybe are using for this type of application. Posted here to maybe get more traffic. If I shouldn't have posted here please delete. |

A Razor if you can afford it.
Maybe look at the new cheaper Sig offerings they're only a few hundred. |

Bushnell is blowing out their Forge 1-8s with a German #4 reticle.
I’ve played with them in their outlet store and they seem like solid scopes. I’d give them a shot if I wanted something with a simple crosshair. I’ve had a hard time finding a link for less than retail. Here’s the best I can do - I think they’re going for around $400 at their outlet store. https://www.ebay.com/p/2315600673?iid=204057284825 |

I think an illuminated reticle is very helpful for quick shots at 1x. And I like busy Christmas tree reticles, but BDC/mil dot at minimum.
I would advise you to not look through a Nightforce ATACR 1-8 if you don’t want to drop $3k on a LPVO |

The Vortex line are very good. The Razors can be had around $900 on sale, and are excellent. Their lower end line is decent with plenty of youtube reviews.
I hear the Sig 1-6 are similar in the budget line. Again, check out YouTube for lots of comparisons. |

Used Trijicon accupoint from the EE?
They have simple reticles |

How far will you be shooting? I really liked the accupower 1-8 on my 12” AR but ultimate went back to an ACOG. I have been thinking about grabbing a Ruger Ranch in 300blk but I will shoot 99.9% subs so I am leaning toward a Credo 1-4 since I’m falling out of the sky at 200yds already.
If I needed to shoot past 4-500yds I would step magnification up to a 1-6 and probably go FFP. Normally I prefer SFP in LPVOs, but the Credo reticle works so well in the 1x configuration as a red dot while still offering a good option for calling your drops. -Mike |

The Bushnell AR 1x4 FFP scope isn’t bad and can be had for $150. I use it in conjunction with an Aero lightweight mount and have been pleased with the performance,
The illuminated reticle is needed for the “red dot” 1x performance as well as shooting in low light conditions. The RT6 is on the short list as well. |

If you can live with a 1-4, I'd be looking for a gently used Steiner P4Xi. Mine's still rocking along solid as houses seven years later.
Dang they've gotten expensive. Think I paid $375 without the magnification throw lever. |

The new Sig 1-6 is AMAZING! Shockingly clear, very bright illumination, comes with a mount.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply. I have a lot of reading to do.

Burris RT6. Better glass than most low end LPVO’s. Most 1-8x have bad distortion at the upper range too.
|
|
Used accupoint 1-4 red triangle.
Zero 2” high at 200 you’ll be on +/-4” from 0-300. That, or a red dot Most cheap LVPO don’t have daylight bright recticles. And since this is a bolt action, why not a 3-9 or 2.5-10 ? |
|
I’ve got a VX freedom 1-4
Mark AR 1-4 VXR 1-4 All are great and under 500. |

I don't see why you'd want an LPVO on a bolt rifle. I have nice LPVOs on a few of my ARs, because the majority of the time I need them to ride at 1x based on use.
For a bolt gun, I'd probably look at a 2-10. The eyebox will be a lot nicer, generally less expensive for the quality of glass, etc. PA has a Gold line 2.5-10x that you can get in either a 556 BDC (ACSS) reticle, or in MOA or MIL grid. That's what I'd do. |

LPVOs, red dots, or even prisms/ACOGs are about right for these. |

A Primary Arms PLx 1-8 compact with an ACSS reticle would make you pretty happy and your wallet will be too. The NF ATACR line is fantastic though. Best glass for miles and if your wallet does not care, FO.

I resisted for a long time because it's the boring answer but finally got one and it's one of the best optics available. I'd say only an acog/rmr rivals it unless you want to take a big price jump. |

Need a budget, man. Theres really solid choices from a few hundred to a few thousand. Personally, I like the upper end. My Grendel wears a Leupold VX-5HD 2-10 and I really like that scope. Its a hunters scope, not a plastic fantastic tactical go-go. I just ordered a Kahles K16i to put on my 556 go-to so I have a true 1x for handshake distances as well as decent longer range usability. These are both fairly expensive. My Steiner P4Xi is a great scope, and when they were still 400 they were the best thing going for under 5. They are a bit more now. That Eurooptic Trijicon deal is a hot deal although its not the 1-6 you want....
