I didn't think she was particularly attractive in Top Gun, and she looked a fair bit older than Maverick, which also made it seem awkward to me.

If you compared a bunch of women at 30 and then at 62, I bet 9 out of 10 look relatively similar to her especially American women. No reason to be cruel about it. We age, we get ugly. Most dont have the drive to make working out and calorie counting a big priority, especially with age.

I'm pretty sure he just sleeps in a vat of vaseline every night, is all. I'm also pretty sure he dolled himself up to look older as a young man, so now he has to do less than most to look like he used to, and is also very conscious of his image and simply doesn't go out without makeup on so tabloids can take nasty pictures of him.

Because the original movie was pretty gay, Cruise is gay, and the casting guy was also likely gay, so a forced love interest (besides his pilot buddy

) was selected with gay sensibilities. It's not like we don't see this happen all the time in modern movies.

She is an old hag. There are lots of women in their fifties to early sixties who still look nice. She let herself go to shit and wonders why hollywood doesn't call her anymore.

There's truth to this. It's quite possible to keep fit & healthy & look good for one's age. It just takes some work. I'll guess she has enough money & time time, but just lacks any interest to maintain any kind of fitness level. So, barring any sort of underlying chronic medical condition or physical limitation, it looks like yeah, she just let herself go. It's a popular choice.

Being an outlier usually involves greater effort.
