When I started working for the company, we were doing 60 hour weeks. Pay was good (for central AR) and I was really happy. Not a difficult job and all the guys I work with are awesome.
Cut to January and the work dropped off. Every week has been the same from management “next week will be better!” We have averaged 3 days a week since January, not being told if we are working until after 6pm the night before. Which makes plans impossible. I worked Monday and have been off Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I’d have taken my kid camping. Im lucky that my wife earns enough for us to pay all the bills etc. Some guys have been in deep trouble for months now and I feel really bad for them. The hourly rate is good, but when you’re not working, you’re not earning. They don’t get that concept. I’m one of the oldest guys (34) that works out in the field. Youngest is 18. That makes us millennials and gen Z. We ALL want to put in big hours and work damn hard. It’s the older management that have fucked things up. Losing contracts, spending crazy money on new equipment and new hires. I have my notice this morning and don’t expect to be given much more work over the next two weeks. It’s disappointing and I feel pretty numb about it. |

I think its a better move to get your resume and shit in order and start looking for a now job before you quit your current one.
If you're quitting your current job because the lack of hours, that means you had the time to be searching for new work, while still earning at least some of a paycheck. |

Hopefully they're using all that time off to look for other opportunities, and to maybe even work on education to improve their trade or transition to a new trade.
You should try to find a trade/career that pays enough you don't have to work 60 hours a week. Working that much is not making the best of the life we have been given. |

We're in a construction lul in the industry.
Everyone built out like gangbusters during all the 5g densification, covid wfh ,and the last few rounds of rural broadband stimulus and rdof. It will all pick up again whenever uncle sugar starts throwing money around again. Seems to be a very cyclical industry. |

I pick stuff up fast Without knowing anything specific about that industry, I would guess that it favors the guys willing to move to where the work is...? Seems like it's very project-based, the jobs are wherever somebody decides to spend a bunch of money on a new project. Once it's done there's nothing left to do but move to where the next project is. |
