Nicely done.

Did the real Blue Angels fly with yellow sparrows on their birds?  If so, wonder why they haven’t continued the tradition.

Neat.
Now you need to build at least three more.   Or five.

Yea, I researched all the Phantom pics I could find since the rears were yellow and the fronts blue.  Cannot figure out why the did that.  But this is from the 1969 season.

Nice build!
Tool box suggests methodical.

Didja ever strip a brush to 1 bristle for fine work?
Likely make those now.

Thanks!  This is the rest of the build tools.

I’ve never stripped a paint brush that small, but I have been known to whittle down a cotton swab stick with an exacto to an almost hair thin strip to apply paint where needed.

And BTW, I live for the OptiVisor!  If I’m at my bench there’s a 98% chance I’m wearing it.

I got my Optivisor in watchmaker's school in the late 60's.
The only original parts are the gray visor and the lens, everything else has been replaced a number of times.
Lenses lightly scratched, but still going strong.   If I'm working on something it's on.

Haven't built a model in a looong time.  I could never master the gloss finish on a large area.

Here’s a trick that works for me…..be a paint and bodyman for 11 years.

I actually had to repaint the tops of the wings because they just would not gloss out. And this goofy paint would not buff out.  I had one spot I fought with for two weeks. I’d polish it, it would look great and an hour later it looked like I never touched it.
I decanted Tamiya TS-15 spray bomb into a bottle and then airbrushed it.  I learned to lay it on thick and heavy to the point of it almost running.  I actually had to “roll” the model as the fresh paint started flashing off. To make it look really great, wet sand with 1200 grit and respray.

FWIW, my Iwata airbrush could not pass enough paint with a 0.3 tip.  I had to use my Grex airbrush with a fan attachment.
