He was a major disappointment to many of us. In many ways he, as an observant Jew, betrayed his faith and gave the lie to his much-vaunted image as a moderate. He sold himself out to be Al Gore’s running mate, and many never forgave his craven betrayal. For the country’s sake, I am glad he lost. His passing gives rise, at best, to ambivalent feelings.
Now, if Al Sharpton could only spontaneously combust… |

Quoted: Yes. I suspect the reason why we hadn't heard from him over the last ten years is because he knew his party went batshit crazy and he wanted little to do with it. View Quote You may be right. Disliked the guy back then big time. I don’t think I’d mind if he was in office today because he was way more moderate than todays left. |

Lieberman was not much of a friend of freedom. He was a friend of Tipper Gore's PMRC, the Brady campaign (going back so far that they were called Handgun Control Inc), and pushed for ratings on video games. He was also an early proponent of Internet censorship.

Quoted: John McCain wanted to select Lieberman as his running mate. Conservatives balked at the idea given Lieberman's voting record and McCain's health record. Somewhere in there McCain met Palin, and I think the old guy wanted to squeeze those melons and go motorboating. View Quote The State couldn’t allow BHO to lose. McCain and Lieberman would have steamrolled the junior Communist from Illinois. Thus, Palin was the pick. |

I remember waiting on the wife to use the bathroom after watching a movie in Pacific place downtown Seattle. I hear this guy behind me talking, every other word was "uh".
My seventh grade English teacher drilled into us that"uh" is not a word. I instantly knew the voice. Turned around and there was Lieberman, waiting in his wife as well, with a small crowd. He had the worst two ss guys watching over him. Total checked out raggedly cheap suits. I chuckled. |

He was a human.
Former Democratic vice presidential nominee and U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman died Wednesday at the age of 82 due to complications from a fall, according to his family. He was “the last of the moderates,” conservative radio host Mark Levin said. Lieberman was in the news just a few days ago after he criticized Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) for demanding early elections in Israel. He called Schumer’s gambit “outrageous” and a “mistake” in the midst of Israel’s war against Hamas terrorists. Born in Stamford, Connecticut, Lieberman had a remarkable career. He attended Yale for college and law school, served as attorney general of Connecticut, and won election to the state legislature. He became more religious over the course of his life, and was the only Orthodox Jewish member of the Senate during his twenty-four-year tenure. He observed the Jewish Sabbath, and even wrote a book, The Gift of Rest (2009), about its importance. When votes were on Saturdays, he would walk to the Capitol from his home in Georgetown and a colleague would cast his vote for him. Lieberman was a New Deal liberal, who combined an enthusiasm for civil rights, social welfare, and liberal social policies. He did not, however, support gay marriage, and voted for the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996, defending the importance of traditional families in the raising of children. |

Lieberman also told Marlow in 2019 that the Democrats’ shift to the “far left” would hurt them: “There’s a difference between being a traditional liberal Democrat and being a far-left Democrat, and this is not a far-left country,” he said. He added that Democrats had failed a “moral test” by refusing to punish antisemitism in their ranks when Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) let Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) avoid serious consequences for anti-Jewish remarks.

Lieberman always struck me as considerably less slimy than most Democrats.
Maybe he was just good at hiding it, but my gut feeling was he was a pretty decent guy. |

From his blind support of the Iraq war, then up until last year, saying that “we just don’t remember events accurately, and therefore our support of the war soured quickly and others such stupidity” he was also a early fan of internet censorship and a leader in the gun control movement. |
