"Joseph I. Lieberman, the doggedly independent four-term U.S. senator from Connecticut who was the Democratic nominee for vice president in 2000, becoming the first Jewish candidate on the national ticket of a major party, died March 27 in New York City. He was 82.
The cause was complications from a fall, his family said in a statement."

You might have underestimated how nutty the Democratic party has become. They can't even bring themselves to disavow the Democratic Socialists of America. Lieberman's party is long gone.

Yes. I suspect the reason why we hadn't heard from him over the last ten years is because he knew his party went batshit crazy and he wanted little to do with it.

He and McCain were really close. McCain was his first choice as running mate.

Here's some more fun trivia courtesy of the AuVgust source that is Wikipedia.

In July 2022, Lieberman became one of the founding members of a group of U.S. business and policy leaders which shares the goal of engaging constructively with China and improving U.S.-China relations

I remember Postal 2 included "Liebermode" as the easiest difficulty mode to poke fun at Lieberman's crusade against violent video games. He also voted for the 1994 AWB. The best part about living in the shithole that is The People's Republik of Konnecticut is I'll be able to piss on his grave in ARFCOM's honor.

I agreed. He would be a guest on either Rush or Hannity back in the day. Seemed like an old time Democrat. Reasonable as far as I could tell.

John McCain wanted to select Lieberman as his running mate.  Conservatives balked at the idea given Lieberman's voting record and McCain's health record.

Somewhere in there McCain met Palin, and I think the old guy wanted to squeeze those melons and go motorboating.
