John Madden was old school and a great coach long before the NFL went woke. RIP.

Hello. I'd like to order a pizza.
No. Why? Because you're John Madden. |
76 Raiders. What a collection of characters. My favorite NFL team ever.
I quit watching in the 90's. It just changed too much. |
I literally just looked him up yesterday as we were talking about him at work to see how old he was
One of the greats.
He and Summerall knew you didn't have to blabber constantly to call a great game. |
Back in the day when NFL was awesome.
Coaching and calling games he was great. FIP ETA It's amazing his heart didn't pop on the field the way he coached. |
They just ran an All Madden Special last weekend about his life.
It was great. He was an awesome old school man and would highly recommend streaming the special. |
Bummer. I always enjoyed him. From making the Turducken famous, to using the telestrator on guys butt sweat to determine how hard they were working!
Thanks for the laughs, Mr. Madden. |
I used to love him and Pat Summerall in the Ace hardware commercials
A true legend, from the days when everything was right with America
Man, I miss old school Monday Night Football.
Also, I’ll kick y’all’s ass at Madden 92 on Sega. |
Ah man. He was the voice of the NFL for me as a kid in the early 90's. Just watched his special last weekend.
Didn't he get mad on the sideline and tear up a folding chair after a bad officiating call.

I knew a guy who played for Madden when he coached for the Raiders. During a practice, he called Howie Long a cocksucker. Long was pissed and told Madden not to call him that again. Madden then screamed out, “ COCKSUCKER, COCKSUCKER, COCKSUCKER.”
I ate at his favorite Mexican restaurant in Van Horn, Texas. It was ok but not great, a lot of football stuff there.
Damn, RIP
He could be found in local watering holes around Danville, CA & nearby back in the day. |
I met him at his house when I was little. As in little enough that all I really understood at the time was that this guy REALLY liked the Oakland Raiders.
ESPN says he "died unexpectedly"
He was 85. I guess typically you have an illness that leads to death, but at 85 it's not unexpected to die. |
He reminds me of a time when the NFL was a huge part of my life, and men were still men.
That was fast. I just got the alert on my phone. ARFCOM for the breaking news win.

He knew the game like no others. Great coach and great commentator too. RIP John
Loved listening to him and watching him when he covered games. RIP. |
