For me its 300 blk in plastic mags only, aluminum for 5.56.

I have 2 ars in 300, one has my thermal living on it, the other is a 8.3 inch. I typically only bring one caliber to the range at a time, but I actually just realized that when reading this thread.

I submit, sir, you obviously lack psychoanalytic skills when you claim to be able to diagnose disorders from a single post.

Why don't you go recline on your own couch for awhile?  You might be suffering from the vapors.

I don’t think having unique mags hurts, but having the wrong round in a can full of loose rounds definitely hurts.

@Trollslayer
I've gotten quite a few labeled for 300blk off of ebay. I think I've gotten 2 6 packs or 2 ten packs. Forget which. I use them on my 20rd Pmags dedicated for 300blk

Very nice. I need to get some of the bands, I only have one that was a freebie with the case trimmer I ordered.

Right now all of my color coding is PMag colors matched to furniture, which has been working as long as I continue to be extra paranoid.

Due to the physical characteristics of the 5.56 and .300BLK rounds and the distinct possibility of an accident with destruction of the 5.56 rifle and possible personal injury, I think you'd have to be nuts to have both calibers at the same time.

I can see this being a distinct possibility for me.  For non-precision rounds like 9mm, 300 Blackout subs, 7.62x39, and a few others, I dump bulk rounds into .30 caliber ammo cans so I don’t have to monkey with 20 or 50 round boxes while loading and shooting.

However, I could see inadvertently dumping a handful of cartridges in the wrong can by accident.

Thanks for mentioning this, DVCER.

Wrong ammo in a can usually happens when you take someone else shooting with you, and they don’t know the difference.

Happened all the damned time when running handgun classes, where the agency or academy supplies ammo and has people clear out mags and weapons at the end of the day, then the first ammo loaded the next day came out of those loose ammo cans.

Of course a 9mm fired in a .40 won’t blow up your gun, and a .40 just clogs up a 9mm action real well.

.300 BLK just needs some extra safety measures in place.  Personally I just do subsonic anyhow, and that won’t be causing the issue.

Parts commonality is worth the headache.  Life has always been difficult when people make mistakes, or are just plain stupid.  You want 100% safe?  Stay away from firearms…

DSG used to sell blaze orange D&H mags.  Those became my .300blk mags.  I since added some .300 pmags, but I wrap the bottoms with blaze orange duct tape to keep consistent.  Then my .300 uppers get a blaze orange index clip somewhere along the rail for ID.  I see blaze orange and I know to be careful with what I'm doing.

In my house 300 BK only gets loaded in the window P-mags with the bands.  223/556 does not go in a windowed mag.

Factory AUG mags are translucent, so perhaps the majority of the mistakes will be caught.

Clear PMags are hitting the shelves soon, so perhaps the title can go to 3 digits.  In the meantime, there are clear Lancers, ETS, & 2nd Amendment mags that allow the Eldest Son to be seen.

Not only do I have 300BLK and 556, I also have an Explorr 300 and Explorr 223 which look damn near identical and use a common mount system. Screw the 223 cal can on a 30 cal rifle and let the fun begin....Right after loading a 300BLK in the 556 AR....

Grey Amend2 20 round mags with rubber bands on them are the only ones I use for 300BLK.  I got 20s because I may get a Ruger American in that caliber some day.

Found this chunk of receiver at the range a couple weeks back. I have a suspicion of what may have caused it but no other pieces were found at the scene to confirm if 300BO claimed this rifle.

Someone beat a AR bolt on a 300 BLK round until it fit into a 5.56 chamber and then got it to fire and it ruined their day and gun.

And no one should have the .308/.270 combo either, correct?
