In my experience, the cracks start when they cogitate on an issue about which they are personally knowledgeable and motivated - really think and confront facts vs the fantasy and hypocrisy on the left.
Of course that is just the beginning and many people will carefully avoid repeating the experience. "Men occasionally stumble over the truth but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing happened." Winston Churchill See also "Sometimes people don't want to hear the truth because they don't want their illusions destroyed." Friedrich Nietzsche. Really no need for the "Sometimes" in that second quote and generally I paraphrase it ala Heinlein "People will hate you for shattering their illusions". |

Move them to a bad urban hood and take them out at different times of the night and day for a couple of years. If they don't see and feel the truth then they are hopeless.
And, get them honest-to-goodness saved in a Bible believing church. A combination of the two turned one of my daughters around. Another daughter was turned around a lot (but not completely) by the bad urban hood treatment. She isn't saved so the commie demons still make an appearance from time to time. The first daughter has no problem recognizing that she was wrong and turned her life around. The second daughter can't recognize she was wrong even though she has turned mostly around. |

Have them watch the life story of Lee Harvey Oswald. There is a man that was as leftist and activist as they make them. He was also delusional as they come. Every time he had reality hit him in the face, he would crumble… the powers at be would laugh at him, and then he would double down on his leftist crazy. He had two failed defections, the USSR and Cuba, a failed Assassination attempt on General Walker, and ultimately killed Kennedy and was himself Killed for it. A total life of disillusionment and failure, delivered by the left and its ideology.

As I was pondering OPs question, this is the first solution that stood out as possible. As mentioned, you cannot reason a person out of a position they weren't reasoned into. You can put them into a situation where they learn the truth through difficult, painful, first hand experience. Not a great example but: The vegan on Naked and Afraid became a carnivore in a few days. My daughter's white, woke lifeguard coworkers at Kings Island, she said, were one hell of a lot less woke by the end of this season.  I'd bet, if someone took them by the hand, showed them their total net, total gross pay, as well as the hidden 7.5% extra fica that was taken from them....and then explained that much of that money likely went to the "people" whotreated others like shit as they saw all summer, their deprogramming would have a decent shot at sticking. |

Steve Kirsch, multi-millionaire donor to the DNC, finally woke up. He saw too many of his friends die of the clot shot and did his own research. He contacted all the politicians he gave money to and the best response he got was two months later from an aide. He asked the aide if she read his letter and she said part of it. She admitted that since it contradicted what the CDC says, that she stopped and they (meaning the congressman's office) would take it no action. That was his wake-up call about how bad the demonrats are.

It's hard to reason people out of positions they didn't reason themselves into.
I think what it takes is a big dose of reality. However that happens to them, it takes something real, something objective. Like when their beliefs lead to them being hurt, like being hit by an uninsured illegal alien and suffering injury (physical and/or financial) because of it. |

I've shown a couple the error of their ways by using a socratic method. Usually once the lack of principals behind their beliefs is made apparent, they start to question things a bit more. But the idea is you only ask queations because you can't tell people in a cult that they're in a cult.
However, if they realize they're in a cult, they can do something about it. The biggest point is to show them the media has lied to them over and over again. That instills doubt in "the current thing", which opens the doors to queationing previous assertions. Of course, you'll also run into die-hard partisans that only think in "bumpersticker political slogans". These people exist on the right and the left, but neither are smart enough to think for themselves. Both are rarer than you'd think, but the left-leaning ones outnumber the right-leaning ones 10-1 easily. |
