I never served, nor I did attend the Academy.  I had the chance, but didn't, and I respect those who did.

Is it OK for me to wear this?  I DESPISE Stolen Valor.  But I like the hat, and would wear it as a patriotic American.

Only if you're under way.

Stolen valor only applies if you are attempting to receive some benefit from claiming to have served.

ZFG unless you claim to be a squid.

Now, if you claim to be one half of a submarine couple, nobody will question you.

Does that mean you don't think it was a valid question?

I don’t know why you would want to wear it.  I don’t think of it as stolen valor per se but I can’t think of anyone besides graduates and maybe their parents who would wear a USNA hat.  It isn’t like wearing a WSU or Bama hat in my opinion.

I wear a Dallas Cowboys shirt.

I am not on the team and I dont like football but I wear the shirt.

I never had anyone question it either.

Its not "stolen valor" if you aren't trying to imply your a graduate, but most people who see you will assume you are an alumni...  People might even ask you.

And, why?  Seems like a weird thing.

If you are walking around in sports team gear people just assume you are a tard and don't even want to ask.

Get a shirt that says, "VEGAN."  I bet nobody asks about that, or even makes eye contact.  Shit, you'd never even have to wait in line at a cash register because people would be trying to get away before you started talking.

If it floats your boat....go for it.  My FIL used to like to play AF fanboy dress-up and he never served - I think all the stolen valor chasers cured him of it - I think he got asked too many times if he served and had to explain he did not and none of his 3 daughters did either...he doesn't do it as much now.  Ironically, all 3 of his daughters have had husbands/SOs who were either in the Army, Marines or the NAVY.... no AF.

Who would think there is any valor at the Naval Academy?

I've been seeing this type of discussion a lot. In some of the Facebook groups I am a member of and I've seen some YouTube videos of people who are real service members getting accused of stolen valor (by non-service members go figure), hell Don Shipley before he got booted off of YouTube had to make a video about a Navy LT who people were trying to call stolen valor and he was still in the Navy. People are going to far sometimes to either have a video go viral or something or other. Shits crazy now a days because some people are taking this to another level.

Wear the hat.

It's not stolen valor.  Perhaps you are a USNA sports fan?
