Ironically TX has the highest posted speed limits in the US......

Though folks are going to lose it when photo radar finally comes to their ao and 11 mph gets them a citation by mail.

It's finally coming here due to a bill Kay signed recently covering construction zones.

I'm sure dropping the limit from 70 to 45 on i-65/10 won't catch anyone driving 56, nope.

All of North Dakota and Montana freeways are 80 mph. Texas is predominately 75 mph.  Although Texas does have the small 40 mile stretch of 85 mph.

This.  Most of us that live in populated areas probably drive the "flow".  Only the morans trying to barrage through 20+ over the prevailing traffic get scrutiny.  As it should be.

The only way a radar detector would do me any good would be rural interstate traffic out west.  As I am not a moran trying to blast through traffic at 20+ over the "flow".
Note the "flow" is often way higher than the posted speed limit.

Here in Northeast Florida/Southeast Georgia if you keep it 10 or under on I-95 they completely ignore you.

BUT,if they changed the unwritten rules and started writing tickets for only 5 over can you really bitch-after all you were speeding whether it was 5/10/15 over.

Speeding on highways and interstates, in and of itself, is a victimless “crime”. Anyone supporting punishments for it is a statist and an anti-Constitutionalist and should never be trusted with serious conversations or decisions concerning others. Cutting people off, too fast for conditions, tailgating, left-lane camping, swerving around and/or being a menace to others are reckless driving or similar charges and should be limited at that.

School zones? Sure. Residential/surface streets with limited sight lines and limited time to react with cross street traffic? Sure. That’s “unsafe for the conditions.” But there are statutory rules for how speed limits are determined there, involving speed studies and such depending on the locale.

And for the tired, old, topic that’s been rehashed countless times. Radar detectors work extremely well but you have to keep up with technology, and you must know how to use them properly such as mentioned above. Don’t be in front, have a rabbit or screening traffic, if there is no traffic at all you’re taking your chances, and detector + Waze can be a fantastic combo. Oh and LIDAR detection can work, but you mostly have to get lucky like mentioned above with some defracted or reflected lazer just happening to hit your detector. I’ve had at least one LIDAR save with a radar/laser detector.

My tickets the cop always rounded up.   I was going 14 over (by mistake -i usually don't go past 10 over but I was distracted).

Cop wrote the ticket for 15 over in Georgia - I didn't argue with family in the car in spite of looking at the dash on a brand new vehicle while hearing the detector go off at the same moment....

15 over gets you a "super speeder" additional fine, which I suspect helps pay for the local PD's operating budget.   Oh well

Yes, I know how it works.
A fair amount of my driving is two lane double yellow like the pic I posted in the OP.
Often the speed limit is not a limit but rather more like a goal because some zombie driver will be going 22-23 MPH in a 30 MPH on double yellow with nobody in front of them.
If I'm lucky and nobody is going slow in front of me then I would be the lead car and very easily targeted by a LE vehicle coming towards me or one sitting off the side of the road.
The detector won't change my driving, I'm still not going to push it more than 5-7 over. As I said, it is to humor myself.
On the motorcycle I've made several YT shorts where people are making me go 10 MPH under on double yellow.
Now in the car I can amuse myself, if I pick up one of those unmarked trucks coming towards me, I could be going the speed limit and still be entertained.

Correct. A late gen Gen 1 is still effective as a pure radar detector for K and Ka bands, which is still what a majority of traffic enforcement uses. It may get more false alarms and miss some fixed photo radar, but still pretty good for an "old" detector.

6 MPH over is a "look n sniff" stop, not a speeding stop. Son needs to polish up his projected image if this is happening to him. Like it or not, first appearances count.  He's also the age where it's more productive for a "look n sniff" than an older dad type person.

I was going to mention that I had heard stories years ago of the VSP confiscating and even giving people the choice to stomp them at the side of the road back in the 80s but thought it might have just been an urban legend or something.

I've used Waze.
It may report a cop parked in the median or side of road.

Waze is not as useful for reporting a LE vehicle (especially unmarked) that is moving on a two lane road like I posted in the OP.

We have them,  but I've only seen them in construction zones. I'm not sure if this is by statute.

AFAIK,  at least here, tickets issued are not initially reported and are simply a pay up deal. .gov gets slower traffic and easy cash, corporations get an easy cut.  It takes an officer at your window for your ticket to immediately enter the  'system'.

Fair enough, a very late model V1 is probably one of the few that could still be tolerable. Of course it'll still work for traffic radar - that hasn't really changed, it'll just be chatty in traffic or on surface streets.

I'm quite happy with my V1G2.  Downside to the Valentine is you have to run it with an external app since it offloads lockouts.

The V1G2 doesn’t have built in gps like most all of the other brands. You connect the detector via Bluetooth to your phone and an app (JBV1 on android or V1Driver on iOS) that keeps track of location and locks out repeatable junk signals.

JBV1 integrates other detectors responses/data plus Waze now I think into heat maps as you drive. It’s pretty powerful but is an android only app.

If you’re interested, look up Vortexradar on YouTube. He has a very good channel with great videos detailing all the differences on the current models.

Take note of the band TYPE in your local area and if you don't K band after a few months, turn it off to stop false hits from ADAS on auto opening doors at businesses. In my area local to me, 100% of police/HP/park rangers is on Ka band.

Waze sucks. I ran both at the same time for a few months and the R8 was 100% and waze was maybe 10% accurate.

10-14 over was my discretion.
15+ was ticket.

If I'm living in a speed trap I may as well humor myself with it.
Strive to carry the handgun you would want anywhere, everywhere; forget that good area bullcrap.
"Wouldn't want to / Nobody volunteer to" get shot by _____ is not indicative of quickly incapacitating.

Does it do the lockout combining location with an expected number of bogies? In other words "this location with 4 bogeys" is locked out. But, if it picks up 5 bogies it doesn't lock it out?  Cops are not stupid, so may well position themselves in the cover of other signals.
Don't confuse where I live with where I'm from.
