Highwayradar app with a Bluetooth/ wifi uniden model is the best setup.  It's saved me from many speed traps.  It integrates crowd sourced data, Waze, weather alerts,  Google and airplane alerts with the radar detector.  It has heat maps that alert you to where cops have been spotted frequently.  It has alerted me to crashes up ahead.  It works on Android or iPhone.

At least on V1driver, you can automute bands (like X and K). I think location lockouts are determined by frequency and location. So if you have a Ka 34.7 show up in an area that normally automutes a K band, the Ka will alert.

I’d have to go back and review the info to know for sure though.

You probably thought you were doing something good, too.

I wish cops would focus on drivers who are actually dangerous. Left lane campers, tailgaters, super slow drivers, road rage stuff like cutting people off, etc. Speed alone isn’t unsafe.

Problem #1 is people driving distracted, looking at their damn phone or the laptop on the dash.

Problem #2 is pedestrians & bicyclist who feel entitled to ignore looking for traffic and lack brakes or the ability to stop walking, moving.

Problem #3 is overreaction by FDOT or .gov
Some guy goes over 100 MPH on A1A and causes big wreck. OMG they are going 100 MPH.
Let's drop the speed limit from 45 to 30. And in this spot where it is 30 drop it to 25 MPH. That should fix it.

Someone is speeding on bridge and overturned in wreck. OMG they are speeding on the bridge fast enough to overturn, let's drop it from 35 MPH to 30 MPH. That should fix it.

Everyone gets "punished' due to the reckless actions of a couple of people.

Meanwhile Karen has not stopped looking at her damn phone while she is driving.

Lol, GA doesn't pull you over till you're doing 10+ and there are no points till you're going 15 over. The only place I've seen a heavy presence is in S GA on the highways, the rest of the state they're fairly sparse and laid back with traffic enforcement. If you think we're bad don't venture into VA, they're essentially a police state in comparison.

ETA: Here there would be no point, nor would you likely see a reduction till you're doing 15 over either.

That's f'd up.  It would be one thing if you got a speeding ticket and could pay the fine and that would be the end of it, but at least in some places your insurance company will punish you by raising your insurance rates for FIVE YEARS. There doesn't even have to have been an accident; even a ticket for 3 mph over will do it.

So, drivers want to know when they are under surveillance, be it by radar or laser.

Most of the drivers I have seen on the interstate (maybe 75%) seem to travel at speeds above the speed limit. There are very few accidents, so those speeds are demonstrably not unsafe.

I understand that police are simply enforcing the laws on the books and have no issue with that, but politicians setting artificially low speed limits are a problem that results in people who travel at a reasonable and safe speed being punished.

Honestly I'm not the best example.
I'm thinking (thought) up to 9 MPH over is tolerable (was in KY) and usually go over the speed limit a bit if it is possible, just because (default setting); to me I'm within the accepted standard of tolerance or so I thought.
I'm the one who taught him to drive.
By the time I was his age (21) I had two speeding tickets and one for improper passing. And I thought that wasn't too bad.
I went about 16 years before I got another speeding ticket.
Knock on wood but it's been about 16 years since I got a ticket - because usually I am "only" speeding a few over which I incorrectly assumed was within tolerable limits.
So, my driving example was not follow the exact speed limit.
Though I failed at setting the best driving example, both our boys (21 & 22) drive a manual transmission (as do my wife and me) so I did something right.

Yea, he paid the ticket, did the class and has had a reset on adhering to the speed limit more closely.

I used the incident to buy a new toy.

Not saying older folks don't speed just that they're the ones that always helpfully tell us not speeding is the way not to get tickets, and that this forum is now mostly made up of those types.

Having said that, I can't remember when my last speeding ticket was. Between 26 and 30 years ago. So, I am generally fairly well behaved. Particularly when in towns or other areas of high traffic density I stick to the speed limit or very close to it.

Me driving 6-7 over the limit is not because I'm in a hurry.

Miles of double yellow at 30 MPH (if I'm lucky and  a zombie driver is not going slower than that, sometimes the speed limit is more of a goal than a limit) is just painfully slow, boring.
Again, the detector is for in the car, no convenient way to mount it on the bike.
Attached File

If the speed limit is 30 MPH that means under normal conditions at night one could go 30 MPH safely and not get a ticket.
Logically if 30 MPH is safe at night then one could safely go faster than that in the daytime when visibility is way better.
Do we have separate night vs day speed limits? Big Nope.

Also, golf carts, I'm guessing 30 MPH is to accommodate allowing golf carts to ride around on the main roads.

Logic is not a factor though.
Here is an example:
In the busy part of town where the speed limit is 30 MPH due to heavy traffic, pedestrians, golf carts let's give bicycles a whole lane. Bicycles could ride on the sidewalk (legal) but Nooo.

I have run radar detectors on 6 different motorcycles, starting in 1986 on a GSXR-1100. You just need RAM mounts and a little creativity.

On my sport bikes, I fashioned a small shelf out of 1/8" thick aluminum bar stock from the hardware store, sprayed it black, and affixed it to a couple of bolts that held the mirrors on. A large square of industrial velcro held the detector on the shelf. I also had a big o-ring stretched across it for additional security. Some creative bending was involved to have it level over the side of the instruments.

There are also commercially available mounts. Search for "motorcycle radar detector mount" and you will find them. Some guys mount them to a triple clamp bolt or a brake or clutch reservoir mounting bolt. Throw oyur gloves down over it if you get pulled over.

I like the 'remote audio adapter' for my old V-1 (other detector brands may have a built-in audio out jack IDK) and I have it running to a SENA SM10 Dual Stream Bluetooth Stereo Transmitter (SM10-01) in my tankbag that is paired to my headset.  This gives me the audio alerts inside my helmet instead of blasting them for the world to hear. Works like a charm.

Nothing is 100%.

I was in a rental car (POS econobox) and got pulled over by a cop who was on the side of the road.  I saw him and, since I was doing the speed limit, I didn't bother to slow down.  He said he clocked me at 88 MPH.  I started laughing, stating that I'm not certain this POS can do 88.  He said, well honestly, I wasn't really paying attention and traffic was heavy so no ticket.  Still, getting pulled over while doing the speed limit shows that theory isn't infallible.

My mom was driving on base in a heavy rain, doing well under the speed limit because of the conditions.  An MP pulled her over and said she was speeding.  Only ticket she ever got in her entire life.

When I was much younger, it seemed I had more places to be and less time to get there. Got a lot of tickets early.
I had an off brand of a Passport IIRC ordered out of a magazine that sold audio gear. Got one of their EQs too. Anyhow, it was a GREAT unit. Served me well for many years until it was stolen from the truck.
I got another one (mail order company was out of biz by then) but it was nothing more than an ornament. Pure garbage. Got a couple of tickets with it and I think just having it did make the police a little angry.
I gave up on detectors over 20 years ago and just started driving smarter. No more than 10 over depending on where I am.

My V-1 did the job yesterday that a unit with a GPS lockout could not do.  I was on my way to buy groceries. This takes me past a school that has a 20 MPH zone when the yellow lights on poles are flashing. The same pole also has a radar gizmo and one of those signs that tells you how fast you are going. Well, the yellow lights were flashing, and my V-1 alerted as usual, but the bogey counter showed TWO signals instead of the normal single signal. Of course if it had a GPS lockout, it would have been silent. On the grass just off the edge of the pavement right near the radar sign sat Office Obie running traffic radar. I had already slowed down, but just after I passed him, his lights came on (bright enough in my mirror to draw my eye) and he banged a u-turn to pull someone over. Now, I've driven past that school countless times in the years I've lived here, and this is the first time I've seen a cop "hiding" in the cover of that other radar. Glad to have been alerted.
