Recommend me something...as epic as Hyperion. With characters you love so much you've felt like you've lost something when the story is over and finely written prose that is almost poetry.

Sci-Fi is my first choice, but would consider some fantasy as well.

What have you got???

Wow, looks very cool thanks for the rec. The protagonists middle name is Rhadamanth...not a coincidence I'm sure.

They are, they read the same so if you enjoy his writing style it'll be worth it just for that. It's also a tighter story, and packs a LOT into just two biggish books vs the four of Hyperion/ Endymion series.

More straight sci-fi and less literary based sci-fi, is pretty much any of the "culture series" books by Iain M. Banks, for that sprawling space opera feel.  "Use of Weapons" is probably one of my all time favorites books, ever.

The Stormlight Archives series by Brandon Sanderson is my favorite. The characters are so well developed that the payoff feels special, like you know the characters personally. It is fantasy though.

Good rec, already read them and Mistborn though . Impatiently  awaiting the next ones!

ETA and I totally agree, great characters and the reason my OP says I'll consider fantasy even though I prefer sci-fi!
