I brought my truck in for tire rotation, guy says some of my lug nuts are 'expanding' and they can replace them.
okayyy, but I don't want to be limited to what they have on hand.. What are some good lug nuts, hopefully solid, and not 2 piece jacketed (like the OEM)? alloy wheels, 14mm x 1.5 American made preferred I don't want locks |

For our WK2s, I bought OEM GM take-off lug nuts off of ebay that are the right thread for our Jeeps. The choices you have are aluminum capped lug nuts, or chrome plated (or whatever color you like). The chrome plated type don't bulge, but the chrome also flakes off eventually, and then will rust.
I don't spend a lot on lug nuts, they're a replaceable wear item. ETA: Spent $60 on 100 of those GM lug nuts. |

Happened to me a while back. I didn’t believe the service writer until I looked it up on my phone! I told him don’t do anything and I’ll check it out. Bought some solid steel chrome plated ones on Amazon and replaced as many as I could then took it back in and had the dealer do the rest. What a shit thing to do to cut costs. They know damned well these things are crap. if I recall correctly I got the gorilla ones. |

I used McGard when I replaced mine, got them from Summit Racing.
The factory Ford ones were surprisingly crappy, was almost stuck on the side of the road with a flat when the factory lug wrench wouldn't even fit |

I had to replace the nuts on my 2016 F150.
I bought the chrome Gorilla nuts with the lifetime warranty. I think they were around $50 for a set of 20. Very happy with them so far. |

They do the aluminum cap over a steel lug nut for a couple reasons. Aluminum doesn't rust, so they stay shiny, and a stud that is too long will pass thru the end of the lug nut easily and still tighten.

Had 2 piece nuts on my old Dodge Ram. NAPA had some 1 piece nuts in stock so I bought those.
