People are friendly, gonna gain 40 pounds because the food is excellent,
North Shore of the lake. Wish I could afford to live like this. Had coffee with a little gator on the pier this morning. |

Couldn't pay me enough to the live in the 'Dell.
Shit people, shit fake food. |

Why you harshing my gig man?
I’m on vacation, staying in a million dollar house. Going to a NOPD old timers reunion tomorrow night. I’m not one but my friends dad is. |

If you were at Lee’s Burgers wearing a Spikes Tactical shirt about 1145, I seen you.

You Really need to go eat at Kenney’s in Slidell for a Cajun meal. It’s a fish market plus restaurant. You won’t be disappointed.

The muffuletta at Southside Grill is better than the one at Central Grocery

Born, raised & reside in Nola. I lived in Pearl River, which is just North of Slidell. If you like Slidell now you really would have loved it back in the 80's. It's gotten a lot more ghetto over the last 25 year's. Mandeville, Covington & Abita are the new ritzy areas but property values & cost of living reflect it, big time.

I'm 20 minutes west on I-12, Mandeville.
From the back deck of our condo is Lake Pontchartrain, life is very good. |

80s - early 2000's Slidell was great. My wife is from there. Post Katrina, all the Chalmette people moved in. Lots or unbridled growth doomed the city.

Meanwhile over in Pierre Part, Troy Landry and his sons are out setting gator lines in the swamp.

An ex girlfriends family was from Slidell. I loved it when we visited it too.
Her dad owned a popular karate studio there and as far as I know her sister still owns and manages it after his passing. |

Try Phil’s Marina Cafe in Sidell. After my first meal there, I’ve been back many times.
Or if you’re near the NASA Michaud facility, try Vucinovich’s. When 2/3 of the lunch clientele are firefighters and coast guardsmen, it’s good eats. And has the biggest shrimp PO boy I’ve ever seen. |

Generally stop in Slidell every trip to Florida. Kind of a great place to celibate getting past Nola. That said, also stop in Scott generally for traveling "supplies". Yep, tend to do my best to not stop in New Orleans.

Are you looking for your joy ?
I love a good Lucinda Williams reference and when I can use one, I use it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2_EBRWSwNM |

Well I hope you have a great time OP!
I live in MS, but drive to NOLA for work. I'll wave on the way tomorrow! |

I blame covid for my weight gain, but that's a lie. |

OP, I am literally driving there now for the weekend. At the KY/TN border now, so should be there by the morning.

Slidell is where a lot of retired cops and military live. Tons of people that work at Stennis live there as well.
Easy to get around and Sportsman's Warehouse is a great gun/ hunting and fishung store just off I-10. Much safer than New Orleans and just a half our drive into the city. Marcos Pizza is pretty good there. |

I was in NoLa last weekend. Jambalaya was terrible everywhere I tried it. I was pissed. I have an Indian friend from Slidell, that boy can cook.

Everybody: Slidell is an utter shit hole
OP: I wish I could afford to live here! Lol |

When you say coffee....chicory coffee? Do they still have the bounty program for nutria, earn some beer money and find a local place that makes boudan sausage from them

Dad worked at Michoud on the Apollo program. We lived near what's now the Louis Armstrong airport, my mother hated it and always said it was the worst place we ever lived. I tried to find our old house once, but it's gone. From the looks of the area either Katrina got it or it was torn down after. |

Ok it seems that I was not staying IN Slidell but it is the closest town.
Unincorporated area on the north shore where rich folk live. Home last night, Interstate 10 sucks in every possible way. 11 hours to make a 7 hour drive. Anyway I plan to go back and explore some more. |
