How much would I need to budget to buy a tank and get it operational? View Quote A medium like a Sherman is about $250,000 to buy. Then add another $10,000- $30,000 for a hauler. I’d figure $400/hour to run Tool kits extra track $20,000 Extra engine transmission add more money Storage? Buy a garage and 10 acres for fun. The Ropke Museum originally owned the two Shermans used in the movie TANK. One was sold and is now owned the Collings Foundation . View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes |

Can we be friends and can we hang out and stuff and drive your tank and shoot things with it? Like that would be awesome.

Does it have a stabilizer? What kind of rounds are you shooting?

I'm the communist who down-voted it. Please don't play crappy music on videos like this. We want to hear the sound of it's people instead.

I got out of the USMC in 1993 as a 2145/2146. To my recollection, ALL of the M60A1's had been upgraded with the ERA kits by then. Yours does not appear to have ever had the mounts. Were they removed at the de-mil or did you guys take them off? If nether, I'm surprised that this one was never upgraded. Maybe a ramp queen from Barstow? But by then we were pretty much transitioned to the M1A1, so maybe there were a few 60s that they did not feel the need to upgrade for some reason. Curious if you know any history of this vehicle, east coast/west coast, reserve unit vehicle...?
Lots of fond memories of this beast, and we kicked some serious ass with them in Desert Storm! Nothing like a company of M60A1s, on line, firing their main guns. Instant freedom boner... ETA: I knew a Sgt. Knuckles. I wonder if this was his hog... 1st Tank Bn. vehicle maybe? |

How did you manage to repair the glacis? Complete swap from an undamaged one?

I'll add some more photos of the restoration but here's a cool GoPro video of the round ejecting.
If any of you guys are in the Destructive Device world, then you might know Danger Bob. He's the one who loads our rounds for us. He uses a 25-lb projectile and a 8.5-lb powder load that gives a nice thump to the chest and kicks up dust for a nice effect. The demil was only to the breech ring and barrel and they left everything else intact and the recoil system was intact. When I was the SAR Show in December of 2016, I saw my friend James DeGroat and he immediately asked me if I purchased an M60. I told him him yes and that's when he grinned and let me know that he had a registered M68 gun for sale. The stars and planets aligned that day as I never thought I would have a live-fire tank. Quoted: The hull had to be "quartered" via demil cuts but it really wasn't in four. Just the terminology but it was four cuts. The armor is so thick that when they torched it, it basically "welded" itself back together. My guy John V-cut both inside and outside cuts and filled in with weld for days. The entire power pack was removed and the front glacis plate was cut out in the manner that the driver's body could be seen. V/R Ron View Quote |

When the conflict broke out in Ukraine, the rebels needed armor. And there are T34s all over the place on displays there. So they cut the hatch welds and put some diesel and oil into them and they started and ran. And that's what they had in the beginning, until uncle Vlad sent in new hardware. I was really surprised those tanks were left virtually in running condition. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:
Quoted: Thank you for the info. Sounds like a whole lot of work for sure. There is an M60 tank on static display at a courthouse not to far from me. Got to look at it pretty good a few years back. It had a plate on the back of the hull showing it had been reworked at some rebuild place in Germany in the early 90's. Looked it up on the internets at the time and it appeared they virtually re-manufactured the tank when they did that. Every single opening, hatch, track or anything that could move was welded up. Even the tracks were welded to the drive sprocket. Years early I talked to a guy who was involved with the tank when it was placed there and he stated they would drain the oil out of the engine and run it till it locked up. Don't know if this was before or after it was placed at the courthouse. Its awesome to see but makes me sad that its basically a giant piece of iron now. |

My commie lib famiy in laws are going to shit Tiffany cufflinks when I show them this!
A tank is way better than a shotgun. About the only way to top this is a napalm strike by an F-4 owned by an arfcommer. |
|
My goal has always been to rebuild a surplus Hummer, like one of those at the gov auctions for like $10k. Then maybe attached some ar500 steel and mount a semi-auto 50 cal.
BUT DAMN A TANK! |
