I was listening to this radio story today. The person was interviewing a black lady who grew up in Russia. Her Jewish grandmother and Black grandfather had moved there because in the 1930s Russia propaganda was that the USA was racist and Russia was not.
Of course eventually when they became full citizens and weren't getting bonus stuff as foreigners, life kinda sucked. Anyways this lady was talking about all the dumb shit people would do - like were surprised that after sleeping on white sheets they weren't dirty. BUT she chalked this up to ignorance not racism.
The american lady who was interviewing her was always cutting back to commenting about the interview, like she let the audience know that to her ignorance WAS racism.
anyways, at the end she gives this line "I feel threatened on behalf of all my black friends"
I can see being 'outraged, sad, angry, proud, and many other emotions on behalf of someone else, watching how they are treated'
I don't think you can fell threatened on behalf of someone else. Just like you can feel sexually aroused on behalf of someone else, or repulsed on behalf of someone else.
