Sometimes depending on the manufacturer, the hats were made to disassemble for two reasons: 1) To be able to launder the wool or cotton section of the hat and not ruin the leather chinstrap, brim and sweatband 2) To be able to place multiple colored covers on a single visor brim assembly and be able to launder them as well. For example, Navy Visor hats would have a blue and a white cover. I have multiples of these but they are packed away.
