I bought a pipe, and I'm going to smoke it in the house. (Page 5 of 9)

Easier to keep lit. Minimal gurgling in the bowl. And the churchwarden cuts down on the tongue bite. |

I'm not particularly experienced, but it seems like the 965 smokes cooler and with thicker smoke for me than the cherry stuff I have. I like blowing smoke rings I don't like flavor-added anything such as liquor and beer, so I have a prejudice against aromatics to begin with. I'll probably just put some aromatic i like in a dish as potpourri for my office |

I don’t think I’ve ever tried Early Morning Pipe. I remember 965 as a Latakia bomb though. The description says it contains cavendish but I don’t remember that at all. |

Pirate Kake and Plum Pudding are among some others I tend to keep stocked up on . There are just so many high quality delicious pipe tobacco blends and varieties out there. Ive been meaning to order some of Boswells stuff as well as some of Country Squier’s offerings as ive heard good things about both. Good luck . |

Has anyone here tried any of the C&D blends with deertongue in them? These are the four blends in question: Crooner (Deertongue, Burley) Engine #382 (Virginia, Perique, Deertongue, Burley, Black Cavendish) New Market (Virginia, Deertongue, Black Cavendish) Gentleman Caller (Virginia, Perique, Deertongue) From what I've read, deertongue has a vanilla-like flavor, but it seems like it's something you either love or you hate, with no gray area in between. I've also read that it can ghost pipes horribly, so it's best to have a dedicated pipe just for it. Apparently deertongue also contains coumarin, so there may be some additional health risks associated with it. Does anyone have any personal opinions on deertongue you're willing to share? |

One is the Peterson church warden and the other the meerschaum cob. I’ve liked them both but I enjoy the churchwarden more. Seems counterintuitive to me but i seem to be able to keep the churchwarden lit longer than the cob, also i might be retarded and this is just a sample size of one of somebody that doesn’t know what they are talking about. |

I have lots of bent and straight billiards and some straight apples and a few others. I like the church wardens, but one thing that has kept me from getting one is that I am usually working on something when I am smoking, so I go for pipes that'll hang out the side of my face instead of being held. I am usually looking for light weight combined with a big enough bowl to last awhile, and good hanging balance. Also long enough to keep the smoke out of my eye. |

Back a few decades ago my wife and I were looking for a new house. Found a really nice one. Price was right and just what we were looking for. However, the owners were smokers. The house reeked of tobacco smoke. We figured we could never get the smell out no matter what we did. Replacing the carpet and repainting wasn't going to do it. Passed on the deal. |

I'll probably grab an ounce of each to try, and do have a spare cob I can dedicate to the experiment. How would you describe the flavor of deertongue? Is it really a vanilla flavor? |

For my next big tobacco order, I also plan on getting an ounce each of all the main tobacco types (Latakia, Perique, Virginia, Burley, dark-fired Kentucky, and possibly even chopped cigar leaf) just so I can get a better feel for the flavors when they're isolated. After I try a few bowls of each straight, I figure I can use the rest to try to create my own blends. This hobby's almost as bad as BRD!
