Wife wanted to watch something spooky with Halloween coming up.

I forgot what a legitimately good movie this was. I hadn't seen it since it came out and there are some incredible moments that I forgot about. Decent gun porn, too. I really wasnt in to guns when I first saw it. Really makes me miss Luigi (our GSD that we put down last year)

Too bad most of the "pose with your GSD and your rifle" posts on google were wrecked by Photophucket

This movie grew my desire to own a GSD... Well... I have a GSD now.  She's a little shit half of the time but damn she's a good dag.  She'd be by my side till the end whether its her or me first.

I can’t rewatch movies like that where it’s a sad ending. Especially when there’s a dead dog.  I just watched the whole Scary Movie franchise a couple weeks ago and that was great. I felt like I was back in the 90s

Bad ending. Look up the much better alternative ending.

Completely different than the movie. Not like a little different, no real elements of the book made it to the movie at all.
Just like I Am Robot.
And War of the Worlds.

I liked the movies and books fwiw.

If I remember right Omega man is REALLY similar right?

It's like watching Goodfellas AFTER you watch Sopranos, you go "damn they turned a movie into a series, even hired all the same actors".

Last Man on Earth, Omega Man and I am Legend are the same story. Same source material.

The Last Man on Earth starring Vincent Price is the closest. They did change the ending a bit though. The setting/environment was weird, the novella takes place in my neck of the woods, The South Bay area of LA county. I know my area well and all of the streets and locations around here are fairly flat, almost no hills. I think that they filmed this one in Italy.

The Omega Man kept most of the same themes but instead of a group of living vampires, they turned that surviving group of people into kids that were infected but had not yet turned into mindless savages "the family". No dog.

I liked I am Legend but the story is quite a bit different. NYC instead of LA, the dog is his pet and this version didn't have a separate/special group of infected survivors that were not ravenous zombie vampires.

Well it is completely different. And was written in a different style so kind of hard to read like the original Manchurian Candidate. You will be reading a chapter and from one paragraph to the other it changes the point of view and then you have to back up to figure out what is going on. Both of those took me a while to read cause of that style. Yet the book is always better than the movie.

I Robot is an excellent reference to how the books differ. War of the Worlds radio show is fucking great. I can see how when it came out scared the shit out of people.

Those young kids that haven't heard it here you go.

I got into guns in 2009 when my wife (then gf) and I were threatened by gangbangers with a gun. I posted a thread on it a long time ago.

I wised up pretty quickly that there are shitty people in this world. Met some cool arfcommers and ate peeps with them since then.

Who are you again?

Exorcist III aka Legion.

George C. Scott and Brad Dourif are awesome in it.

It's spooky but not gory.  Suspense but not really "horror."

That would be my recommendation, anyways.   I liked I Am Legend but, as others have said, Omega Man did it better and more faithfully to the book.

Yes, good flick, at least what I saw....

I didn’t know about the GSD in the plot & watched the movie alone a month after we put down our GSD for degenerative myelopathy.  Next thing the GSD scene comes, I’m crying like a baby & never finished it.

Literally the worst, cheesiest movie ever made. Was there ever a more overrated actor than Heston?  Rhetorical because it's of course no.

Sure wish the prequel to I Am Legend would be released.

Author is Richard Matheson. I think damn near everything he wrote has been turned into a movie:

I am Legend
Hell House
A Stir of Echoes
Nightmare at 20,000 Feet (think Shatner)
Somewhere in Time
The Shrinking Man
Road Rage
Duel
What Dreams My Come

Out of all the stuff I liked about the movie

I couldn’t get over that he was pretty much driving clean Fords in a city that had been dead for years.

This coming from a Ford guy.

The movie never really even explains why the title is "I am legend" and as a result fails hard.

Originally, people used to tell their children stories about monsters, boogeymen, etc.

Now...this new species tells *their* children stories about *HIM* - he is their mythical creature that may or may not actually exist.

I liked the film a lot more with this idea; that Will Smith is the demon who snatches the unwary from their sleep, and then they’re never seen again. He is their boogie man, their night(well, day) terror.
